grider18 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2009 Has anyone ever witnessed or saw footage of anyone being dropped with a body blow in a fight on the ice? I see it in MMA and Boxing don't know why a hockey player couldn't land a sweet kidney shot to finish a guy off.....
Gummer12 134 Report post Posted October 31, 2009 Cuz it's Not MMA or Boxing...they're not out there to end a guys career.

Rustpot 1 Report post Posted November 1, 2009 Hockey pants cover the kidneys in most circumstances. The head, once the helmet is removed, is the least protected part of the body and that's why hockey players don't throw body shots. You might see a hit or two thrown when they're tied up, but what use is hitting their pads?
87vert 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2009 fighting in the nhl is about sending a message not about injuring or maiming a guy. Pickup a book called "The Code - a guide to fighting in the NHL" and you will understand why they dont do body blows. And aside from MMA and Boxing being fake. Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted November 1, 2009 If you see guys throwing bodyshots, they're either absolutely frothing mad at one another, and just trying to inflict any pain they can, or they're two major heavyweights looking for leverage in a big-time tilt. junior 1 Report post Posted November 1, 2009 its weird that this has come up, me and my friends were just discussing this same thing a few hours ago. None of us have seen it either. We figured with all the padding and condition NHLers are in, it would be useless to throw the body shots.

grider18 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2009 not trying to end careers I agree but win the fight? If I knew by slugging you in the kidneys during our fight that I would buckle you and the fight would be over and the chance of me getting punched in the face would be over, guess what I am smacking the hell outta your kidneys! Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 The other time bodyshots are totally above-board: Hordichuck gets extra points for actually leaving the ice as he throws himself into the kidney-punches. Perhaps not the most effective form, but he sure is enthusiastic.
MorePower4me 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Must depend on pad type. Aside from the fact I'm in a rec league....I wouldn't throw a body shot because I know that any thrown at me would hit the pads. I have about 3" in total above my waist that aren't covered by thick padding. A face shot isn't hindered by pads and gets that rewarding, direct, fist to skin/bone contact. And aside from MMA and Boxing being fake.I'm a part time boxing coach and I've been boxing since I was a young boy. Let me tell you, the shots I've taken and given are very real my friend. A well placed shot to the body can make a skater lose his legs for the rest of the game.

Get outta town. I have to agree that it has to do with padding, and the macho-ness of hockey. Only reason to take body shots is if you cannot hit them in the face. GSH13 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 Seems like there are a lot more body shots in the lower ranks of hockey (juniors, minor leagues, etc). I'm sure they're are a few reasons contributing to that...

TheHerminator22 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 there's so much padding everywhere that you would have to have pretty good aim to find a spot on the body where there are no pads. This would be really difficult considering the other guy is fighting back. Plus as someone mentioned, no you dont want to injure them, just knock them out for little bit a prove a point. jcp2 2 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 Uh, I think a knock out is a concussion is an injury.
Mike92 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2009 Yeah not sure how a body shot is considered trying to hurt someone, while punching them in the face isn't? I'd say body shots are rare for the same reason you don't see guys punching helmets too often, hurts the hand and isn't very effective.
