DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted November 11, 2009 In Flanders Fields By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army In Flanders Fields the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted November 11, 2009 Great story about Flanders Fields. Don Cherry (as most know) is greatly supportive of the troops and every year on his radio show he dedicates 2 or 3 days around Nov 11 to soldier stories and things of that nature. As it turns out...McCrae wrote it in about 15 minutes, sitting on the back of a vehicle after burying another solider. When he finished writing...he threw the paper away. It was another soldier who picked it up...and sent it to a British newspaper where it was first published.
