Easton Stealth/Synergy skates

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me the "real world" differences between the S12 and the SE10? Just reading the descriptions they look very similar.... is one stiffer than the other? Does one hold up to shots better than the other? Both weigh the same? etc. I didn't see anything on either of them in the review section, thanks in advance

Generally the "cut" of the boot is different. The Stealth is higher and the SE is a little lower. I believe they're both in the same stiffness range. Both are very protective.

IMO Stealth is more of a performance model while the SE is more of a "comfort" skate.

Ah ok..... that makes sense. I'm going to see if I can find somewhere around town that has them so I can try them on but wanted to know if there was anything else to keep in mind. Thanks!

I tried both on when I was looking for my new skates. It was the S12 white and the SE 10. To me, the S12 was much narrower at the heel and higher cut, to the point that I was in pain from the moment I put them on. Toe box felt narrower, heel hurt, not deep enough.

Here is the quick review I did when I tried on several skates, it will also give you good advice (that I got from others here) on the merits of skates in a similar price range.

Good luck

As an aside, I've been skating 2-3 times a week on my Easton SE10's and they are fantastic. I'm a big guy, and they give me the stiffness, support and protection I was looking for, as well as (naturally) the best fit

sounds like i'm in a very similar situation to what you had! thats good to know though, your review confirms about the different cut on the boot.....only one way to find out which one fits my foot best then :P

I'll have to report back with my findings as well, thanks

I actually own a pair of both so I'll give you my two cents on them. The S12's are a bit higher cut than the SE10's (as said above) but not by much. It is noticeable though. I skate in the S12's with the top eyelet left open, but lace the SE10's all the way up. They are both stiff skates, but the SE10 is definitely more comfortable at first. However, after breaking them in they feel pretty similar to me. The only other major difference is that the S12 seems to have more of a comforming type of fit around the ankle and heel than the SE10. I have bony ankles so I had to have the ankle pockets punched a bit on the S12's but didn't need to do that to the SE10's. Overall, I don't think you could go wrong with either. I have both only because PureHockey had the SE10's for $100 on clearance so I couldn't resist at that price! They will be my pond hockey skate once it gets cold enough to freeze around here.

The SE 10's are a slighly heavier skate than the S-12 as well in my opinion however it's not a drastic difference. Both seem pretty decent skates.

thanks for the input duch!

So I was able to try on a pair of s12's last night, however they didn't have any of the SE line available. They did also have a pair of NB One75's that I tried on for comparison though. The s12 was a very comfortable fit right out of the box even, and the One75 ran a lil bit narrower but not enough to actually be painful. The One75 also seemed to give me a tad more room in the toebox, my big toe on my left foot (my feet are 2 different sizes i swear....) was just starting to touch the edge on the s12's but I dont think it would be a problem. They are also both pretty light skates, and a noticeable difference from my old 652 tacks.

That being said, I like both, and they are both available for $299, so now i'm still stuck on what to get! I'm leaning a bit towards the s12's over the One75 because they were a touch more comfortable, but I also have a feeling that the one75 could make up that difference after baking. I also did like the "heel lock" feature that is built into the Eastons, definitely noticeable when you are removing your foot from the skates and would like to see how they perform out on the ice.

Decisions Decisions!

Well One thing I have to say is if the pain on the one75 continues after being baked then you would need to punch it, stretch it, etc causing more hassle.. but besides that you can't go wrong with both choices great skate for that price and the fact one75 is being discontinued soon. Did you walk around them for around 15 minutes each pair of skates?

I probably got about a good 10 minutes of walking/standing around in each. If I had to pick one I'd say the Easton was the more comfortable of the 2 but by a slim margin. I've been told that with the s12 having less room in the toes that that would be my better bet, so I'm leaning towards those at the moment. Both are great looking skates to me also which doesn't make the decision any easier haha

Ok just updating this, I ended up getting a pair of the S12's :) IceWarehouse has a 10% off code right now for anyone interested, and free 2day air. Should get some ice time with them this weekend :D

Good choice...You'll like them a lot. They feel excellent the first skate after baking and just get better from there. Let us know what you think after you skate on them.

I picked up some S12's myself around the same time. I got my first skate in them this past Sunday. Very nice feeling skate…so different than what I am used to. They were a little uncomfortable at first around the top eyelet. Loosened the knot a little and they were good to go. After that it took about 30 mins before I really got comfortable in them. I spent almost the full two hours on the ice and no pain what so ever.

Hard to know what they really feel like though. I'm just off ACL reconstruction so the only skating I am allowed to do is your basic public skating. Nothing to crazy or too harsh just yet. I'm really interested in seeing how they feel in a game. I was impressed with the support and responsiveness of the skate. The heel lock was like no other, superb to say the least.

Does the synergy series skates have more volume then the stealth or do they have basically the same fit? I remember reading the SE16 was much deeper then the s17, but i cant find that thread..

Basically the same fit. You might be able to get a little more volume out of the SE16 due to the additional padding it has over the S17, but they're made to fit generally the same foot.

Glad to see this thread is still going so it can help out some more people in the future

So I've now gotten 3 solid skates on them, and am going to use them tonight for their first game action. They are a very comfortable skate and broke in FAST. I didn't get them baked and I'd say after the first 2 hrs or so of use they were noticeably more comfortable. I also feel like I now have a quicker first step compared to my old CCM's, so thats a plus.

The one thing i'm a little mythed about however, is that when I first tried them on at my local shop, my toes were right at the edge and starting to touch, which is normally what I would consider to be a good fit, correct? During the first skate on them I used a very thin pair of socks, and as previously mentioned towards the end of that 2 hr session, they felt like they had broken in alot, and in the process now I have ALOT more room in the toebox area, to the point where now I'm actually thinking I should have went down another 1/2 size? I can now wiggle my toes and they don't touch the edge at all, and I've never had my feet get "cold" while skating until now. I'm going to bring a thicker (ie: normal) sock tonight and try that and see if that helps, I just can't believe how much they opened up like that.

I'm thinking about getting a pair of S12s but I'm not sure about Easton sizes. I'm currently skating in 6.5EE U+ pros (2008 model) and I know that I can fit 6.5D One55s. My question is would i'd still be a 6.5 in S12s and wether I should go for a R or W width??

not sure if this helps but i'm sort of in between a 6D and 6EE in x60's, 5.5E in 9K's and 6.5R in S12's. of those 4, the S12's feel widest in the forefoot for me(yes, even wider than the 6EE X60's).

Yup same thing happened with my se16's... damn! My SE16's felt really painful before, and after a bake during free skate, they felt fine during the game, a tiny bit tight but not too bad. I put some sidas insoles in them for some arch support while maximizing volume. Too bad they still feel a little too big!

Do you think the insoles helped at all though? A thick sock took up the extra room, but definitely had a "disconnected" feeling to it, albeit it was still better than having too much room.

I fit a 9.5 in CCm and Bauer but had to go up to a 10 in Easton. Best bet is to try them on and feel for yourself though. Buying skates without trying them on (online) can be an expensive adventure.

Yeah, for sure! Sidas insoles give you much better support in the heel and arch area compared to the thin floppy stock easton ones. They also dont take up much extra volume

"Thin floppy stock easton ones"? Easton's stock insoles are pretty much the best stock insoles you'll find. Basically a pair of shock doctors, I don't know if they still have a relationship with SD though, they used to.
