Flex Question

Recommended Posts

...But what about if you dont want to do either, and want to slap?

You should be able to feel your stick load and release. Get the flex that allows you to do that. I find it harder to deal with a shaft that is too stiff when taking slappers than with wrist shots.

So basically, if you end up with a stick that's too stiff, you should focus on taking more snappers than wristers?

No...get a stick that is the right flex for you.

From my experience, alot of people use to stiff of a stick and don't get any bennefits of what the stick is designed to do...bend. I hear alot of people say they snap thier stiff sticks like twigs. When you watch them shoot they break the stick from digging it into the ice with poor shot technique. To many people equate thier flex with thier manhood...the stiffer the stick the bigger, more manly of a man they are. Giving a kid who is 5'0"/85 lbs a 85 or 100 flex does him a dis-service because they do not get maximum performance out of the stick. Sticks are designed to flex alot more than most people realize. When they do break from shooting it is usually at a spot that was damaged from a slash, hack or similar.

Agree with the flex comments, not sure if i have found my ideal flex yet. I had a soft flex and snapped it nea the blade, now im currently using a pmpx 9950 woodie which has about105 but i cut it down so maybe 110/115. Feels good to me, but i dont know much different.

These RM19 sticks should be a bit stiffer so i'll see how they feel

That could be an indication that you're putting too much force down into the ice.

I'm about that build and am searching for the right flex, as I am now feeling a junior stick is a bit too whippy yet an int. a bit too stiff

int with an oggie grip maybe?

Since I'm kinda short the grip makes it way too long as I skate with a rather low stance

You are describing me perfectly in the past few years, a 60 flex stick will do wonders if you ask me.

Cut the stick down, put the grip in to bring it back to your preferred length and it will be a lighter flex than it was before.

I've used a 50 flex Z Bubble the last 6 seasons and haven't snapped it at all. I've snapped 85/100 flex sticks before. I have also found that a flex around 50-70 depending on make (when i play forward), is a pretty good ideal for me. If I'm playing on D I'll pull out a 85 flex stick so I'll shoot more slappers from the point.

Syko: You should try using an Easton Ultra Light 60 flex stick.

I found those Eastons to be really stiff, 70 flex Cyclone felt like about 100 and 75 flex Z-Bubble felt about 90.

Bauer makes intermediates that are 60 flex, you can try that.

The 50 flex Z bubble I have feels more like a 60-65ish while that UltraLIght I had felt closer to 75 than 60.

Joe from Oggie put an easton junior z-bubble on his test rig at the show and it was a 50.something. He has said, quite frequently, that Easton is the most consistently accurate on his test rig.

I must have got some repainted shafts then when I bought them a looong time ago.

Well, after breaking my 87 flex One95 and going back to my Titanium 100 flex, my shots seemed the same I just had to put more effort into my shot with my Mission.

We need a facepalm emoticon.

Surely the only way to work out what is best is to find the blade you like, then get that stick in every flex available and test test test away!

But who here has the money to do that? And by the time you work out what blade and brand works for you - i bet they will stop making your stick!

That's the difference between an 85 and 100 flex

Why?

100 > 87. So yes, more effort would be required to flex the 100 than to flex the 87.

Well, of course, but I would have thought my shot would've suffered going to a higher flex. See I'm only 150lbs so a 93ish flex(2in ext.) would seem to be too much for me by the flex to weight ratio. So I don't really get why my shot velocity doesn't vary as the 80ish flex ) One95 seems a lot more appropriate for my weight. Maybe you can help me out?
