Kovalev wants to play til he's 50.

Recommended Posts

Saw Kovalev on OTR today. He said he still has a goal in mind of playing 2000 NHL games....which (at current pace) would take him to roughly 46 yrs old. Landsberg questioned if he could still play at that age...Kovy asked "How old is Chelios?" Then quickly added (partly in an attempt to pimp his new DVD) "With the exercises I do...I could play til I'm 50"

Then, I see during intermission of the Habs game...:

Coincidence???

i heard about slava's "comeback".

i wasn't surprised that they didn't post his TOI or any stats he may have accumulated. dressing for a game to get your team some attention and actually being able to contribute instead of just filling a vacant spot on the roster are two completely different things.

its the equivalent of "honoring" a former team member's number in the nhl. "we're not retiring it... just honoring it"

I wondered about that too...but from the clips they showed...mind you it was RDS, so I don't know what they were saying...it looked like they had clips from different points of the game.

The article said he was called by Nemchinov when a defenseman was injured...so I assume was there there to play some kind of a regular shift.

I guess when you don't give 100% each game it's something he could achieve.

I was thinking the same thing, he should have plenty of gas in the tank.

i dont have any doubt he could play till he is fifty - whether it is in the nhl is another matter - he could easy pull a jagr since they practically worship him back in russia

besides - russian players seem to love their rubles

At the pace he's going, Kovalev could play well into his 60's.

I thought it was funny to read this on a blog today,

"Don't understand why Senators fans are so infuriated with Alexei Kovalev. What did they expect? After 15 years, he's going to change?"

and then see the thread.

Sure if all you want to do is dangle without purpose in the nuteral zone and take the occassional PP shot (which seems to get blocked more and more each game) then sure he can play till he's 50.
