Tackla Air 9000 pants - opinions?

Recommended Posts

I've never been in a pias in my life..... And resale should be a consideration when you play a sport where ppl are the most finicky bastards ever about fit and feel of gear. I went many a year without paying full price for a pair of skates or sticks by unloading when they still had life left in them.

Resale value should be the last thing anyone considers when buying gear. Most people that are picky about fit and feel buy something that they like and stick with it for the life of the product.

Buying gear based on resale value, so you can buy something different later just seems absurd to me. Then again, I've been using the same pants/girdle, elbows and shoulders for five or six years and the same make/model of sticks for even longer.

I honestly agree with you on the resale thing, but not on pants. You never know what's really doing until you use them a few times. They either never break in to suit you, feel great, or the sizing gets screwy once the pads do their thing. The 9000s are a good example. They are comfortable on me now, but for the first bunch of uses I was getting extreme discomfort from the plates in the groin area of the pant. If I had two brands of skate that both suited my foot type and one was bauer and one was easton, features being equal, I take the bauers every time bc I know I can move them along much easier and prob for more cash when I do.

Buying gear to use for a while then sell still doesn't make sense to me. Lord knows I've gone through tons of stuff through the years, but I always tried to get the stuff that worked best for me in my price range. It's worth an extra $20 or $30 in potential lost resale value to get something that feels better to me.

I've never bought any piece of hockey equipment with the intention of re-selling it down the line. I buy it in hopes that I can get some usage out of it, and if I dont, big deal. I'll sell it off cheaply to someone else who has spent way too much $$$ finding a piece of equipment they are comfortable with.

Ironically this thread updated today - I just got my Air 9000's in the mail. Hell of a deal - *very* lightly used for $20, amazing! I'm glad that I waited. The closest LHS to me that sells Tackla had them for like $165. They have 1 little tear, but still have the new car smell.

I can already tell that I'm going to love these pants - super comfortable and the fit is awesome. Actually, big thanks to the person who pointed out the Tackla sizing thread. I would've probably gone for the 50's but used the thread advice and went for the 48's sight unseen, and they are absolutely perfect.

Thanks again for all the info guys!

Hey guys, in your opinion which are the better pants? The 9000s or the 5000x (pros)? They are both roughly at the same price and I'm not sure if the 5000pros are worth the extra $30. Wish I could try them on but no lhs around here stocks the pros.

UPS Just dropped off my new pair of 9000z's and I've got a questions for some of you guys that use these pants.

The belly pad is only stitched to one side of the pant. Is that how it's supposed to be? I can't see any loose stitching, like it was stitched and then came undone, but it just seems weird.

That is the way it comes! It pissed me off so I cut the stitching and removed the pad.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. My fat gut pushes it off to the side, so I may cut it off. Something about taking scissors to a brand new pants doesn't seem right though.

If you pull it away from the pants you will see blue stitching. All it does is hold the piece on. I carefully removed each stitch and now it looks like that was how they were put together.

In the same position.

I have found a pair of used Tacklas for $32 but have no clue which model it is (a bit of a noob when it comes to stuff like this). The labels have been rubbed off. They are in really really good condition and seem to have a lot of life left. No smell, very little marks. But decided to leave them to research a bit more. Will probably go back to the store tomorrow.

Can someone help me narrow down the model? They had air stitched on the side, the two tackla logos on the leg, zipped leg, black lining, no protruding tail bone support. Thats all i can really remember. Are they these 9000 airs or my next best guess is the 5000 airs?? Thanks for any help!

Or should i buy it regardless? They felt pretty snug and comfortable.
