USA vs. Canada World Juniors

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if anyone can clear this up. My room mates and I started to discuss the what the tournament would have been like if all of the Under-20 NHL players had been included for every team, but we could not figure out who the US would be missing? Not trying to take away from the US victory just trying to end a debate in my house.

The only player i can think of from the US is Bogosian

This is by far one of the most exciting games I have watched in my life. It seemed as if it was a repeat of the year (2007) where Canada was down by 2 goals late in the 3rd period only to come back to tie it. Despite Canada's loss it was a great game! Congrats to both teams.

I'd take WJC over NHL, 8 days a week

Any elite level short term tournament should provide more excitement than a full 82 game season. Plus, the mistakes they make, tend to make the game more entertaining.

This intermission is the worst thing to happen to Canada. I think if there was 40 more seconds in the third, Canada would already be wearing the medals. I can't believe how clutch Eberle is; absolutely phenomenal!

Yeah, that Int killed the momentum they had. Can Eberle go right to Edmonton NOW...they sure could use him!

wow wow and wow. Seriously one of the best games ive ever watched. So much excitement with the teams trading chance for chance. I have to admit I have not seen a lot of Carlson, but being a Caps fan, this has me really excited. Streaking down the wing, open up, head up, no look snipe. I love it. Carlson and Green is going to be a great 1-2 punch. I gotta say the Caps blueline looks great for the future.

Carlson looked far better in the tournament than he has looked in any of the Bears games I've seen. He'll be fine in a couple years but does need more time in the minors.

in order to truly appreciate what its like to win, you have to feel what its like to lose.

i think that sums it up the best for both teams...

i didnt watch the whole game because i know what the outcome was going to be...i did watch the highlights...and from the sounds of it, it was another classic.

great job Canada (we're all proud of you) and congratulations to the u.s. jr's you guys earned it.

Great game by both teams tonight. Although Canada played their hearts out, I have to give big props to USA for developing this years group of U-20 team. Hopefully we see more of this in years to come and a rematch in the finals next year in Buffalo, NY. Hopefully I can score some tickets to drive in to check out the action!

Crazy game, best hockey game I've seen since the Russia - Canada 2008 WC final.

Kreider's shot was insane, besides that the speed difference between the US forwards and (most of) Canada's D was noticeable.

Canada was the better team, but the US played to their strenghts.

my guess is if we (the US) played them 10 times we'd probably lose 6 or 7

I disagree. The US controlled both of the games, having 2 goal leads in both until there was less than 10 minutes to play in the third. Each game they decided to fall back into a trap and it bit them twice. If they were to play 10 times, by the 3rd game Blais would have them winning by 3 or 4. On a side note consensus #1 overall draft pick Taylor Hall did not look good at all in either game against the US.

And the reason for that is Cam Fowler. Playing with him every game helped when it came time to play against him.

What an amazing game last night. I absolutely love the the U-20 World Tourney. Very disappointed to see Canada lose, but I didn't think this team was as good as past years. Props to the US for their win. I still think Canada would have won if they would have started Jones in goal, but how could they have known that Allen was going to play so poorly as other than the game against the US he wasn't really tested. I thought Campbell played amazing and actually was the difference maker for the US.

As a Canadian, I can't help but wonder how different the game would have gone is we would have had our best players under 20 years of age. Imagine if Stamkos, Tavares, Hodgson, Duchene, Doughty, E. Kane, Myers, O'Reilly, etc were able to play. I think it would have been an easy win for Canada. I am glad to see that USA hockey is getting better. There were 10 states represented on the team this year I believe, which is impressive. It bodes well for hockey south of the 49th and the NHL.

Hell of a game. Jack Campbell hugely outplayed Jake Allen, despite both giving up 5.

I think Campbell only gave up the last two goals, and Lee gave up the first three goals before being pulled.

You're right: my bad. Fatigue had its usual toxic effect. :)

Fuck me... just looked at the stat sheet, Campbell faced 34 and stopped 32 coming in cold. I thought people were overrating this guy coming in: not any more.

It was a terrific game although both starting goalies were pretty bad. Good job by the USA team, they deserved the win. Eberle played very well but some of the other Canadians did not.

Blais deserves a lot of credit, I think. The guy's track record should make him a legend in American hockey:

Coached Roseau to a MN high school title; coached the Sioux to 4 NCAA titles (2 as asst and 2 as head coach); and now has coached the U20s to a title.

loved the game. thought the refs were pretty pro canada. glad usa pulled through. one of the best hockey games ive ever watched

I thought the refs were pro USA. In the First period the calls were all against Canada and very questionable.

I thought the arena was pro Canada! LoL

I loved this series, and I had to leave early for hockey and my wife was totally into the game! Both sides had amazing talent/struggles during the games, maybe we leave latvia out next time and just role a 7game series!

I thought Hall was the second best forward next to Eberle. He was knocked on a lot, but kept plugging away, and probably the fastest skater too.

I thought for the most part the refs missed a hit from behind in the 1st when a US player hit (Hall I think actually) into the end boards, and yet called the Cdn player for barely touching the US player along the boards.

Overall, this game came down to Campbell outplaying Jake Allen. As a Windsor season ticket holder, I can't wait to see Campbell between the pipes next year! Plus the Cdn coach should have yanked Allen sooner, he was having on off night right from the get go. Plus the Americans speed was tough for the Canadians to handle, as well as the fact the Canadians couldn't get many shots through to the net - how frustrating!!!

Living in Windsor (border city), losing to the US is the worst possible thing to happen for a Canadian hockey fan, plus being a Windsor fan too - having an ex-London Knight score the winner sucks big time!

you have to give credit to the usa shot blocking, one of the better games of that i've seen in awhile :P

Kristo looked like he was a full step faster than anyone else on the ice, especially in the third period. I've never seen that at an elite level before.

He's still got a ways to go too....saw an interview with Trevor Timmins...(Kristo is a Habs pick). He's playing at LEAST 1 more year in the NCAA before he hits the AHL. He'll only get better.
