flyweightphantom 1 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 Looking to get back into the 2-piece as I can't take spending all this money on the 1-piece anymore. Been considering different shafts but had my eye on a tps R8 shaft in whip flex. Has anyone had experience with the shaft either standard or tapered? Just looking for opinions!! Been considering different shafts but had my eye on a tps R8 shaft in whip flex. Has anyone had experience with the shaft either standard or tapered? Just looking for opinions!!I did a review on it, but it has not been posted yet. I've been using an R8 Whip, Taperred Shaft and it is by far my favorite shaft. I've tried an One95, AK27, Easton Z-Buble, Easton S-15, and a bunch of OPS. I've used it for 4 months now and it's durable, light, and it's a good overall stick. I have an R8 Nash blade in it, and it's a little blade heavy, but nothing crazy.
Xtra 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 I have a hockey buddy that uses the R8's in both a shaft and OPS. She refuses to use anything else. She even got some ONE95's and doesn't use them. She loves the R8 2pc. . . Light, whippy, durable.
EvilPepe 24 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 I've been using a standard R8 whip flex for a few weeks now. The thing is light, and has held up great. It IS a bit whippier than I thought it would be messing around with it in the shop, though. Probably going to put it aside though and get a higher flex in the same shaft. thejackal 46 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 been using a R8 whip in pro radius for a while, favorite shaft. The grip is a bit like the One95 (tactile and grippy corners), which is really nice. really responsive shaft. I do think you can get something better for a bit less (that One95 tapered shaft that Chadd posted about), but if you want something 70 flex you can't go wrong. Aggie 9 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 I have both R8 shafts in standard and tapered, whip flex. They are pretty good shafts, though not quite as good as their XN10 versions. I actually find both versions to be balanced pretty well with composite blades.
automorph 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 amazing shaft but whip flex is pretty whippy (wet noodle)you have to get used to it
flyweightphantom 1 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 well you can't get better reviews than that. I'll definitely spring for one of them just not sure whether to go with tapered or standard? I also cut my shafts down some so it will prob take a little bit of that noodle feel away from it.
OldNSlow 3 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 Can someone tell me about the shaft dimensions on the R8? Specifically, it is a boxy, square shape? What shaft would you compare it with? For example, the Easton Ultra-Lite has a traditional, boxy shape. Bauer Vapor shafts have rounded corners. Mission shafts are square-shaped plus concaved. Comparisons? Comparisons? They have two shaft dimensions, one being their standard shape and the other being "Pro-Feel" (Comes only in WHIP flex). The standard is a concave shaft and to me is simular to a Bauer One95 shaft. The Pro-Feel is a smaller Diamiter and would be simular to an intermidiate shaft in a seniore length and flex. It's also concave, but the corners are a little more rounded as well.

If I do decide to get a whip flex will I be catching passes and feel the stick flex like crazy where it becomes difficult to catch passes from time to time? I had a ONE95 1 piece 87 flex and I had that feeling didn't like it much but man what a shot I had with it. Also whats the benefit of going with a tapered over a standard? Sorry for all the questions!

Sorry for all the questions! They make a tapered and a standard version. Short version:Tapered shafts/ops should load more easily for wrist and snap shots. Standard shafts will have no lag at all on those shots because it will not load as much.Obviously, fiddling with kickpoints and zonal flexes will change that somewhat, but that is the basics of it. flyweightphantom 1 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 Thanks chad much appreciated. Well i'm gonna go for the tapered version in whip flex and try it out for a while, hopefully I can give a nice review for inquiring minds to help out those interested as well. srv2miker 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 I seem to be in the minority, but my R8 didn't last at all. I got maybe 5 decent ice times out it before it had a sizable chunk out of it, then maybe 10 more till a big crack was in it and it was cut down and given to a neighbour. Could've been a freak accident from a slash or something, but i wasn't impressed with it.
OldNSlow 3 Report post Posted March 5, 2010 Is the R8 shaft shape similar to the Stealth CNT concavity? Thanks in advance.
