There is a kid who is about 8 inches shorter then me, but he uses a stick bigger than mine. My stick is about junior height. I could use a junior stick if I wanted to, but there just a little too flexy even though I like flex, plus the shaft is way to thin, same with intermediate, it just feels weird.

Theres a guy with the Roadrunners I believe. He was Guelph's (OHL) captain last year. St. something he used an incredibly long stick. They had an article on him the other day. He's below 5'9 and his stick was 66", but AHL regulations made him cut it down to 62" He has alright hands. I noticed it was incredibly long when I watched him play in the O.

I actually like having a longer stick. I prefer to stickhandle away from my body, and I also feel more confident trying moves. I'm like 5'3"-4"ish, and I use a 48inch standard shaft with a 8 inch plug. It's long, it's almost cumbersome, but hey, it balances the blade out, and it's LONG! :D

hahahaha...rowing on ice :P

you would need about a 2 lie on your blade.

that's almost true...I have trouble finding a lie low enough...I just buy wood MOdano's in bulk and recurve them with a heat gun. Even still...it wears at the heel. Not much a cheapskate like me can do though...

shorter stick = more gooder stickhandeling (imo of course), I think stick handeling is much easier with a much shorter stick, the stick goes to about my chest, kinda like sakic, only im better than him. Also, it makes you bend your knees more, which is a good thing. Lie also plays a role with the length of your stick, with a higher like like 5.5 of a sakic, I need to use a shorter stick for the way I stick handel.

I know what you mean. It sucks that hockey is all about polatics. its who you know, not how good you are. If they actualy cared about talent and not "whos friends with who" Iam sure you woud have kicked sakic off the team. it's their loss though.

"...more gooder..." You're a funny guy

I too use a fairly short stick. I stand a little over 5'10" and use Inno True-1s, all 300 flex, cut down a few inches below my chin while standing bare-foot, so the sticks come a little higher than mid-chest with my skates on. Unfortunately, this takes away from some of the whip that I love so much; the cutting jacks the flex up to something probably around an Easton 83. Not only do I feel the shorter sticks help my puck-control, but they also feel much better on quick snap shots. For some reason, I just feel like I can really get on top of the puck and, if need be, put my entire body into the shot and really get the shaft to bow and kick.

well...a longer stick means it's more flexible. For the times you don't load the stick, the longer stick would result in a longer swing arm, so you hurl the puck. I don't really know if that's true or not, but that's my concept.

Just tryin to argue my case... :D

...I see what you are saying. I hate to say it again, but it really is all personal preference (how many times has that been said on this board?). You probably get a little more "sling" in your shot compared to guys like me (small, quick) who utilize the "kickier" snap-shot most of the time. Just curious...do you find you have a hard time getting shots loaded-up and released quickly? Other then the fact that I feel I can control the puck much "more gooder" with the shorter sticks, I also feel that I can get the puck on and off my stick extremely quick. I'm just wondering if you can get the same results using the longer twig, and if it took you much time to adapt your shooting style to the long stick when you first decided to go with it.

eiop,

How does your league or team let you play with a stick that long? And what do you do when the puck goes near your feet? And with the toe of your blade pointed so high, how do you even get enough blade on the puck to shoot or receive passes? I'm not dissing your style, I'm also curious what your style is like and how you've adapted to using a stick that mack might even find too long.

hahaha I don't play in a league....just drop-in and chillin with friends and stuff. Epitome of the Rec player...hahaha

I can't shoot/pass accurately with a short stick. When I started playing, I couldn't get a shot off, then I had this idea to add to the length, and it worked, so the length stuck. I don't really load the puck most of them time, since most of my sticks kinda torque open anyways. I started skating way before I touched a hockey stick, so I'm used to kicking the puck/ball onto my stick (footwork). THe toe actually isn't pointed THAT high, maybe like half an inch at most. Most of the time I the one making the pass, so recieveing is rarely is a problem for me. . I can't seem to one-time it though, so I guess that's a drawback. THe length really comes to play when I try to wrist it through traffic in my opinion...a lot of whip.

don't know if that made any sense... :D

and as for stickhandling, I just make sure that the puck/ball is in a place where the guy I'm tryin to deke out can't get it. Going wide usually works, since the stick's so long.
