no way the ds is gonna own the psp. Sony wont know how to make hand held systems as well as nintendo plus that psp looks as fragile as a 200 year old lady.

I heard the psp doesnt have enough battery power to operate. Like if psp only has 40 minute battery life..how are you gonna watch a 1 and a half movie.

Nintendo's not done in the console wars! Once everyone stops wetting themselves about how "great" Halo/Halo 2 is and want something actually creative and original, they'll make their way back to Nintendo - where true gamers games live. I still can't think of any more than 3 exclusive games on Xbox worth owning...let's see...Crimson Skies...KOTOR...Panzer Dragoon Orta...that's about it. I mean, did anyone else notice that Halo 1 was the same level over and over again? As long as there's Mario Kart, there's Nintendo. I have faith in Nintendo's next gen console.

And yes, DS is going to own PSP like a bitch. Animal Crossing DS? Oooooh yeahhh. I hope EB has some sort of upgrade promo where I can trade in my GBA for a DS...although I do have to admit that portable Gran Turismo is tempting...

PSP is going to be too expensive to appeal to the mass market...and c'mon, Jordan is right...that thing looks about as durable as a Synergy. I wouldn't want to break it.

Long Live The Big N!

EDIT: Bring back DREAMCAST!!

for those who doubt the PSP, it is going to totally own the shit out of DS, it's got a 10+ hour playback for mp3's, 4-6 hour for games and like.. at least 2 1/2 hours for DVD, plus, it looks killer and it can run gran turismo.

the DS looks like a regular gameboy advanced with a dinky little flip up screen that has no purpose

Read the link I posted....4-5 hours for movies, 4-6 for games.

And im not doubting the DS, I think its one helluva concept, but the psp will be so damn complete, it makes me cry.

No way the PSP makes it bigger than the DS, especially not the first time out. Sure the PSP looks pretty, but just watch. The DS not only has a head start on the PSP, but it's a totally original concept - the PSP on the other hand is a mini PS2. Nothing really new (Yeah you can listen to MP3s, so what? Movies are already watchable on PS2), and how enjoyable do you really think playing GT on a puny screen is going to be? You need a real TV for graphically intensive games.

As for movies, I don't think anyone really wants to watch something on a screen that small unless you're stuck 20,000 ft. in the sky. What does that leave the PSP with? An MP3 player - and everyone knows you can get one for a helluva lot cheaper. I think Nintendo will continue to dominate the handheld market, at the very least into the next gen of portables comes along.

Add it all up and you get a system with....

-Better graphics

-an Mp3 player

-Movie capabilities

-better gaming library(if you dispute that sony has owned nintendo on the consoles, your a dolt and I dont know about you...but there is only so much mario and donkey kong spinoffs that I can take before my head begins to cave in)

for $50 more.

I don't dispute that Sony has decimated Nintendo in the console business over the past 2 generations (starting from PS1), but there's a lot of factors that play into it. You have to understand that Sony had a tremendous headstart in the with the 32 bit PS1, and since Nintendo made a poor decision in keeping carts over discs with the 64, it hurt them. No doubt, Sony dominates the console market to this very day. If you're sick of Donkey Kong/Mario spinoffs, that's fine. You're probably too old for Mario now. You, like the other 2 Million casual gaming zombies can continue to play your Grand Theft Auto: 134th Edition, and Halo 16. However, because Sony sells 15 Million more consoles, it does not mean that Sony has a BETTER gaming library. It means that Sony has 10 times the filler garbage, while having several exclusives that in the past, would have been on a Nintendo console. Make no mistake, they are Sony exclusives (minus Gran Turismo) because Sony has the largest installed base. Whoever has the largest base is going to get the most support from 3rd party developers - it's a business decision.

I'm not trying to bash Sony's game library (I do own a PS1/2), but when it comes to truly original, fresh concepts, Nintendo can't be beat. It's a sad day when everyone wants to play GTA whatever, or Halo X because it's pretty and gory and not Mario Kart or Donkey Konga because they're too "kiddy." College/University dorms have forever been filled by SNES Mario Kart and Bomberman battles, and it's a shame that they've been replaced by ubiquitous and repetitive Halo battles.

The PSP, while the screen is larger than the DS, is NOT significantly so, and I doubt that you'd rather watch movies on your PSP than your DVD player at home. Try to think of a situation where there's no TV access and your only alternative for watching movies is a PSP...not many right? Basically when you're stuck on a plane or in an airport lounge, and that's about it. I seriously doubt that anyone will fire up the PSP in the comfort of their own home to watch a movie, when they can just as easily pop a DVD into their home theatre.

Better graphics? Probably. MP3 capability. Yup. Movies? Hell yeah. Fun and original? Not a chance. Sony's too serious, and I don't think the handheld market needs a grown-up's toy just yet. Despite the PSP's sleek and sexy casing, I don't see Alan Greenspan or Phil Purcell toting it with them on the daily commute to the office.

EDIT: graphics, graphics, graphics. The majority of the gaming populace are just graphics whores now. Halo 2 will never be to gaming what Super Mario Bros. was. Let's all understand what Halo 2 really is: Wolfenstein 604.

Actually sony has probably sold around 35 million more than gamecube.

You dont seem to be getting the poiint of PSP. It's not geared toward the little kids who cry to their moms for the new gameboy, it's for the older more serious gamers, the 18+ range. I dont know anybody who sits at home and plays gameboy for hours on end, it's not what theyre made for. Nobodys gonna go home and watch a DVD with the psp when they can watch it at home, thats just plain dumb. The thing to remember is that these are PORTABLE consoles and not for sitting at home on the couch, thats what a PS2 is for. For this gen of consoles I say nintendo will only hold a Slight lead in sales, because the all in one beauty of the psp will catch the minds of every serious gamer looking to play Real games on the road, not sissy mario games. What you put in that big blog of mush and then wrote Not fun and original?? The psp is Completly original, it's a totally new concept for handheld gaming and all sony is doing is raising the bar.

I own literally every console/portable gaming system that has come out since the odyssey and Ping days... I don't have any bias toward any of the manufacturers.

I do question the functionality of the stylus/second screen on the DS. It looks just too gimicky and tedious to be of any gaming value to me. It seems like a throw in feature that became their selling point to me. Looking at two seperate screens seems more like a hassle than anything innovative. It seems to me they just took the (lame) concept of having your GBA hooked up to a gamecube game (4 swords, FF crystal chonicals, etc.) and applied it to an all in one machine. It was lame on those games, and I fear it will be on the DS as well...

Now don't get me wrong, the GBAs my wife and I have are just pure gold, I love them, but I really don't know about this whole DS thing...

Jake, maybe you didn't fully read my post, I DID note that the PSP was for adults, not kids. However, it is unfortunate that many gamers like yourself have now fallen into the mindset that Mario or anything that's NOT GTA/Halo/BloodGutsPuke = Sissy.

Sure, many of us that once played Mario and Sonic games on Nintendo and Sega consoles of years past have grown up, but that doesn't mean that we can't enjoy Mario games today. Just because were 33 and not 13 anymore, there's no shame in enjoying something made for all ages to enjoy. Keep in mind that games like GTA were never intended for kids under 18, yet the majority of people buying games like GTA are probably parents of kids under 18 who have been begged to the verge of tears to buy it. Also keep in mind that MOST serious gamers are KIDS, not adults. Adults just started to pick up gaming again after the PS1 came out - it was marketed towards older people.

I agree with you that Sony is raising the bar, at least in terms of graphical capability, but they're not doing anything that hasn't been done by other companies in other markets. MP3 players? Done. Portable DVD? Done. Portable games? Done. Sony is just combining it in an attempt to win over all the early adopters with $$ to burn. And there's no such thing as a portable console. A handheld device will never be able to replicate the quality that is available on a home console - yes, the PSP will be as good as the PS2, but when PS3 comes out, the PSP will just be another graphical anachronism.

It's. FIFTY. extra. dollars. *sigh*

There's also a reason Sony forces its competitors to drop the price of their system's to keep up...its because Sony SELLS MORE. Proof is in the pudding. Long before sony even hit the console market, Japan was Nintendoland and now look what Sony has done.
