Easton s15's

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Been out of the skate market for a while now but my old skates (RBK 5K) are well worn and falling apart. A local shop near me has a pair of Easton s15's in my size (10.5) and are selling them for $240. The reviews i've read seem like it's better to go with the s17's, but they are quite expensive. So...

1) are the s15's a good skate overall? I skate in a beer league, but at one of the higher tiers, so it's pretty decent hockey

2) is $240 a good price for these, or can I get a better skate for similar money?

i tried to do some research, but all the reviews seem older (besides the ones on here), so I'm not sure if they made improvements since the skates release.

Thanks for the help!!!

James

My two cents: The skate was VERY light. I picked up a pair for 200 dollars a few months ago. They're also pretty stiff. These are MY pluses for the skate.

I did find them to be uncomfortable in comparison to my ONE95s I've been using.

The BIGGEST minus to this skate is the durability factor. The skate has had a bunch of issues when it came to the toe. It falls apart very easily. Since the skate is composite, the black material on the skate also tended to come unglued since it could not be stitched in. Overall, the skates did NOT last LONG for some people I know. Tops, 2 months before they were falling apart on one of my team mates. If you skate frequently and are a heavy skater... I may overlook these skates. If you plan on using these as a back up pair, I'd do it for 240 bucks.

I'm currently skating in these for the past 6 months or so. The toe is the biggest problem. I found that drying the toe material after skating has helped it stay on much better. I had 1500's before these. There is something about the easton boot cut that fits my foot very well. I was all Bauer, until an owner of a LHS asked me if I wanted to demo a pair of eastons the rep left for him.

I paid 220 for mine. If they last a year I will be happy.

Also I doubt the OP is going to spring for one95's, he's obviously looking for a good deal. HG has the one75 on sale in your size. Might want to look into that.

It depends on how often you skate if you should get it.

If your skating once or twice a week, they'll hold up a year and half or so, then you could get some s17s on clearance. if your skating 3/4 times a week or more, they'll last a couple months, then if i were you id send them in under warranty and get s17s.

tl;dr durability is shit. but if you're not playing too much, then these would be really good skates for the money.

Loved the skates. Ran them into the ground over a course of 2 years, picked up some S17's after they broke.

I've had a pair for two years, shortly after they first came out. Got them after a teammate recommended them. Play twice a week and no durabilty issues with mine, but then again I take them out and put them on a skate dryer each time I'm done.

OP. What area are you in, and does your shop have a 7R?

I guess the same people who think it is okay to pay for performance vs durability when it comes to sticks, will say the same about skates? I saw a lot of people in S15s about 2-3 years ago, bu none of the guys who were in S15s then, are in them now it seems. They all went to Reebok or Bauer

I would basically agree with what others have said. I'm still skating on S-15s, though they are just about dead. The skates offer great performance in my opinion...if they fit your feet well, like they did with mine, they might be worth getting for that price. Just don't expect them to last more than 1-2 years, depending on your level of play.

The carbon fiber on the boot of mine is now literally ripping apart...not from a cut or anything, but just under the stress of skating. I barely even used them for the first year after purchasing them...then for the last year and a half, they've seen maybe 2-3 skates per week at best, and I skate pretty hard. The lightweight is nice, but so is having skates that last...I'm switching to pro return Bauer vapors now.

I think that most important question to ask yourself first is: Do they fit properly? I was fitted in a pair of Grafs a couple of years ago and actually pretty much hated my skates. But at the time it was a good deal on the best skate I ever had in my life. Turned out to be a bad deal after all as I haven't used them much and recently switched to a pair of One95s.

Actually, if I may add.. I bought them between 2 and 3 years ago. Than they seemed ok. They were somewhat of an improvement over the last skates I had. Then I stopped playing out and played nets for 2 years then recently stopped playing nets and went back to playing out instead. That's when it hit me that my skates weren't too confortable. Shortly after Christmas I went to my LHS and he had a great deal on RBK 9Ks and decided to give them a try. So I brought my Grafs in to be able to compare and turns out that for my foot, the Grafs weren't any better or worse for that matter than the 9Ks which are a top of the line skate compared to my mid level Grafs. Talking with the guy fitting me, it was clear that it wasn't worth changing to the 9Ks just for the sake of changing so I didn't.

Fast forward to two weeks ago. Go back to my LHS to get my Grafs sharpened and lo and behold, the One95s are on sale as they are liquidating stocks to make room for the One100 and Total One that's coming out in April. Decide to try them on and it's obvious to me that these skates are a 100 times more confotable than my Grafs. Switch back to my Grafs to compare once again and right there and then, it's a given that I'm not going to be palying one more game with my Grafs. Get the One95s baked and they're even more confortable if that's even possible!! I never felt that good in my skates before in my entire life. No pain whatsoever, no foot slippage, no blisters.. nothing but pure confort.

Does that mean that the One95s are the skates you should get instead? Not necessarily as your foot may not be similar too mine and it may not fit you properly.

So I guess the moral of the story is: Try a few pairs of different brands at your LHS and buy the most confortable skates to your foot your budget permits you. You will not regret it. If however you buy a pair of skates that's on sale because you're getting a good deal on a top of the line skate, you may end up regretting your purchase and end up buying another pair of skates before long which in the end won't be such a great deal after all won't it?

I have to agree with the above post wholeheartedly. I've jumped around from CCM to Bauer to CCM to Bauer again. I finally took the plunge and tried on the S15's this summer. They were perfect for my foot. After about 40 games this year so far I can tell they're going to last about 2-3 years max.

For $240 if they fit you get them.

They are a performance skate and very lightweight but that comes at a price.

I am happily saving my $ for a pair of closeout S17's next spring.

I am totally agreed with the last two posters. Try on a few different brands and compare them and get the one that fits the best, not the one that's most popular. I've tried Bauers, CCM, Reeboks, Grafs and even Kors but found Eastons fit me the best of anything out there. I still use my Grafs but not nearly as much as my Easton composite skates. I know a lot of guys hate Eastons but they work best for me so that's what I'll be buying unless they drastically change the fit. Believe me, when it comes to a pair of skates , FIT IS EVERYTHING!
