crookedwookie 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2010 I was just curious if anyone has ever used the Reebok 808. Planning to pick up a new stick next Friday at the LPH Expo in St. Paul - probably a Reebok, if I can find something in the new p40 curve, and I'm debating the 10k Sickick II and the 808. I'm intrigued by the idea of the 808, but you don't see many pros using them, and it's hard to imagine that the vented shaft doesn't feel really strange when it flexes, compared to a normal stick. So if anyone has used one, I'd love to know how it feels in play, with such different shaft construction.I have both an S17 and the new ST, and while the new ST is pretty cool, I tend to prefer the way the S17 plays. The ST definitely has a lot of power when you lean into a shot, but I like how fast the shot release is on the S17. The reason I bring it up is that from their marketing material, at least, it would sound like the 808 shoots a bit more like the ST - higher kick point, slower release but a lot of power - while the 10k plays more like the S17 - light and balanced, low kickpoint, fast shot release.I'm therefore leaning towards the 10k a bit, but the whole idea of the O-stick design interests me. I'm just not sure how it would feel or if it fits my play style, preferring the faster Stealth over the more powerful ST.Love to hear any input from O-stick users. Thanks, guys. chippa13 1844 Report post Posted March 5, 2010 I have not but I can tell you that my buddy who has both the 10K and the 8o8 loves the 10k and isn't too thrilled with the 8o8.
crookedwookie 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2010 That's certainly helpful info, Chippa, thanks. I just wish you could get the 10k without the greenish tint to it.To answer the other question the p40 Hedman curve is (allegedly) more or less a clone of the Heatley curve. 5 lie, mid curve, square toe. K9 Unit 1 Report post Posted March 6, 2010 i used the 9kO the only thing i can say about the holes is it really really stiffens up the taper area so it doesn't torque out and is more accurate, i've seen a couple people switch back from a o stick and feel like those sticks aren't accurate and stuff, but it shoots like a high end stick and not too impressive. its a love it or hate it kinda thing, i like the idea but i feel they can do a lot better
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted March 6, 2010 The 9K0 was horrible in my opinion... The 8.0.8 is better, it's balanced a little better and kicks harder. I'd compare it to the Easton ST performance-wise, roughly. I honestly wouldn't have got it if I wasn't really curious and my buddy happened to get some in with the V130 style blade before they were in stores. Honestly, after people at the rink started using them the novelty wore off. It seemed to chip up really easily in the lower shaft, obviously the V130 style blade chipped up but that's expected from that blade... The feel you get from the blade is definitely worth it. n3ss 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2010 Just tried out my pro-stock 8.0.8 perron curve for the first time tonight. It feels really nice, stickhandling/shooting/passing were all much better than my old 9kO (i did like that stick though). I still need to cut it down but definitely no regrets buying it. VakarLajos 5 Report post Posted March 6, 2010 I tried one briefly in warm-ups and it felt pretty good. Good feel and response. Light years past the abomination that was the original O-stick. the 808 feels like something you would use in a hockey game and not something carried around by one of the Dead Rabbits circa 1860s Manhattan. Either way not bad for $80 on ebay :)
Buzz_LightBeer 975 Report post Posted March 6, 2010 I used the 9K0 and 10K and very much disliked both.recently picked up an 8.0.8, found the 85 flex plays more like an 80, but very impressed with the weight, balance and shot of the stick so far.
gxc999 7 Report post Posted March 6, 2010 The 10k retail, to me, is a FANTASTIC stick. It shoots well on all types of shots, has great puck feel and good weight/balance. Though for some reason, I've found a lot of people don't like the shape/shaft feel of it.
