Old OPS

Recommended Posts

Since my unfortunate change over to one piece composites about two years ago, I have acquired a bit of a collection, most of them retired now. If I find that the stick "dies" on me, not necessarily break, I usually just use them for coaching or they get put along the wall.

So I'm looking at these things the other night and I'm thinking to myself, "WTF am I supposed to do with these?" Its not like the days of wood where I can hack them up and make something out of them (easily at least). So what do you guys do with your old OPS if you don't just simply throw them out?

Not as durable for wood, but I have used old ones for street hockey. Some I use for practicing my shots in the driveway on a piece of cardboard with pucks.

But yeah, like you I have a little collection going. They are hanging neatly in my basement.

Make a chair?

A friend at work is collecting to make a bench, it's not terrible to work with easier, just use the different saw.

Goodluck!

If you're short drop by some LHS and they might have some kicking around.

Street hockey, right now i still have a bunch on back up but im sure your friends could always use some also. If not your friends then ask some of the neighborhood kids and save their parents some money.

If they're not broken I leave them at the rink for the learn to play hockey kids.

Donation definitely sounds like the way to go, plus you can write it off

I have a collection of broken ones I'm hoping to turn into a table at some point. I don't really have many sticks that are just "worn down" and can still be used to shoot with. Usually they're still good until they break.

If it's truly broken, it gets made into a chair. I've made chairs for friends and family and donated one to the local MHA silent auction last month.

If the blade is just soft, I'll turn it into a shaft. Are you strictly OPS now?

Unfortunately...

Picture frames and shelves for the kids......Really cool

These are all things I remember doing with wood sticks, just never thought much could be done with the composites...

I usually go the donate stick route when it gets worn down a bit. But I tell the person, usually a friend, the condition it's in first.

I guess the shaft option is out, then.

You could go the eBay route if you want to recoup some cash, but heed gxc999's advice and fully disclose the condition. I'd be pretty ticked if I won an auction then found out the blade was butter.

Coat hanger wire? Care to elaborate?

I took a wire coat hanger, cut the hook off, and straightened it out.

If you enlarge the pic and take a close look at the point where your knees would be when seated you can see the end folded over on itself. There's another at the top behind your shoulder blades and two under your butt.

I love that beach chair, do you know if the plans are available? What is the name of the co or chair so I could do a search?

Any chance you could post a picture? I have some that are kicking around in my parent's garage (not quite enough for a chair or table), and I'd like to do something with them.
