Big Guys in the house?!

Recommended Posts

Height: 5'9'' Current Weight: 220ish

Started playing hockey at 16 @ 180lbs, for the most part pretty lean and good muscle mass.

Went to college and didn't play.

Got a g/f around the 200lb mark when I was a big dude. Was in that relationship for 3.5yrs and blew up to 270-280 and started playing hockey again.

Got down to 215-220 in 4 years.

Now i'm probably gaining weight again since breaking ankle, arrrrrrrrrrrgh!!

Ballooned up to 250 after 3 months in a cast and 4 on crutches. Now I'm teetering b/w 225-230.

I find the biggest problem in a no check league is that because I'm big, people bounce off of me and fall.

Then I get a penalty.

I was literally standing still one time, and a girl from the other team who had to have weighed 100lbs soaking wet with equipment on skated hard into me. She bounced, hit the ice, and I got two for roughing.

I also have short little legs for my size, so I have a very low center of gravity and am hard to knock down. Therefore I rarely fall in a collision or when guys "try" to trip me.

So, yeah, most of the penalties I get are penalties for being big.

+1 to that! I'm 6'1" and weigh in at 235. I've been as high as 270, and I got so many penalties, that I've had to learn how to play small. It sucks.

6'4" 195-200 depending on when you weigh me.

I got some Tackla's on ebay for a good price that are a tall style and they fit perfect. before it looked like i was wearing short shorts because I couldn't find them long enough!

This thread was made for me! 6'5, the last time I skated was Feb 17th and I weighed 305lbs, now at a featherlite 235 and still dropping. Hitting the ice next week for the first time since, should be fun to see the difference. Also in the market for some new pants soon. All my gear is newer except for the really old pair of goalies pants I got for 5 bucks when I bought my first set of gear. Complete with ducttape and old laces holding them together. Time for an upgrade soon.

Nice work on your weight loss, Schulz! How have you done it?

Thank you! I've been pretty big my entire life so I'm quite excited about the progress I've made. Sadly it hasn't been easy lol. I'm on an "intermittent fasting" diet (eating all meals within a 6 hour window, high protien) counting calories like a mad scientist and intaking approximately 750 calories under my maintenance. I'm also on an EC stack (200mg caffiene, 25mg ephedra) which has a very nice side effect of suppressing appetite along with the ephedra's thermogenic effect (metabolism boost). For exercise I blew off cardio and have been doing basic compound lifts. Bench, dead, squats and lat pulldowns since I can't do pullups yet.

I've used the Losing Fat forum on bodybuilding.com as a resource, lurking there alot and taking part in the friendly competitions they have on there has helped me stay focused. It took alot of reading and learning but I've had plenty of motivation since the new year. That old heart-broken and bottomed out shtick

Based on your work out regime, sounds like you would enjoy the Strong Lifts 5x5 program.

I miss this thread. Funny looking back — I'm now 284 and dropping. I'll always be a big guy though :) Just not so much a "fat guy"

I went from a sleek 6'4 200lbs when i was playing u18 in 2010 according to iihf archives, to my current 6'6 270-280 lbs, which in October was closer to 295lbs before I started playing again. Really makes me regret stopping after the championships for so long.

From this season though, gotta love the bounces, had one little guy playing inline with shoulder pads on, try and check me in the corner, he went face first into the wall, I didn't move, he turned to me and said, "That's what you get!" dude I didn't move 3 inches!

I'm 6 foot and nearly 1 inch weighting 260. I was at 280 3 months ago. 240 is the target for now! And yeah people tend to fall when they hit me because I really don't look like a normal 260 guy.

edit: And I rock Bauer supreme one80 XL long pants

What exactly are you doing? You're not going to lose fat living a sedentary lifestyle.
