According to IIHF rules - there's an age limit.

I think they set a date (for some reason, 1974 rings a bell, but it's late, and I can't be bothered checking), and all players born after that date have to wear one. Thing is, they keep the date set, so they'll become compulsory eventually.

On the pro team I watch in Scotland, only 3 guys don't wear 'em.....

I can only speak for Germany (yet I thought this applies to all of Europe) but here half shields are mandatory in pro hockey, no player is allowed to play without any shield.

This rule is only about 3 years old, before that it was only mandatory for under 18 players to wear a cage.

No ìt`s not a rule in the Swiss League, that you have to wear a visor, there are some players that wear one others don`t. If you have any questions concerning Heatley or other NHL players that are currently playing in Switzerland just ask me, I`m at the "source".

Interesting response rate from all sports fans on the issue.

I wouldn't mind being demeaned if I was making 5 million a year. The players could probably care less.

Not many NHL players make $5M a year. The point was the number of sports fans, the people that provide the money for the salaries, that don't want to see it.

I'm already used to ads on the uniforms, but if I lived in North America and could pay $25 for a ticket to an NHL game with sponsored jerseys, instead of however much tickets cost now, I'd do it in a heartbeat. It's not worth paying tons and tons of money to watch a game just cause the jerseys look nice and clean. But that's just my opinion.

Ticket prices wouldn't go down in most cases. As long as people are willing to pay the prices they are currently charging, why drop them?

That's true, but the NHL doesn't realize how many "true" hockey fans they are losing because of it.

"true" fans will always be there. They are finding other forms of hockey right now, but they will always come back to the best. Places like Toronto and Detroit will always high high ticket prices because it's supply and demand, it's not dependant on the quality of product they put on the ice.

The thing is, most people aren't willing to pay the prices they're currently charging. The only people willing to pay the ridiculous prices are those in diehard hockey cities like Toronto, Montreal, etc.

What I have an issue with is that lack of flexibility in the pricing between premium and non premium seating..

Sitting in the anywhere but the last few rows of Continental Airlines Arena is pricey compared to the sight lines and cost of even a NYR game, outside of the corners its $52 for the last row in NJ..sitting in the 300's at the Garden costs $43 and the view is good...anything decent in Dallas is $75...well $75 gets you the last section a few rows down from the top..

of course its easy to deal with ticket hikes when you're winning..my Yankee tix have gone from $23 to $34 over the past 8 years..but the whole dynamic of baseball has changed in that time frame as well...most of that since 01...

People are paying those ridiculous amounts in most cities, just look at the % of capacity for most teams. Only 7 teams were below 80%, even with high salaries. Only a handful of teams would actually drop their prices and I don't see it being a large decrease.

By the way, Heatly was injured last night, he`ll be off the ice for quite some time. He got shot in the eye by Dani Brière. He couldn`t see anymore on the eye that was hit and his cheek is fractured.
