Jofa shoulder sizing

Recommended Posts

I have searched before posting and couldn't find anything except the elbow sizing which was very helpful. Anyways I wear easton z-airs in a small and there way too small at this point using them for almost 4 years. Every time I put them on i have to lightly strap each part and only covers up to upper chest. Would a medium-large fit better? I am 5'8 and my chest size is around 42.

I just went through the Jofa/RBK shoulders "should i get a Sm/Md (4) or Lg (5)?" decision.

For reference, I'm 5'10" with a 40" chest - meaning i should fit in both sizes - ugh.

I called Perani's to order RBK 4k (2007) and was talked into getting a Large, which was too big. I returned them for a Small/Medium and they fit great.

The main problem for me with the Large was the width in the shoulder area - The caps were hanging off of my shoulders - and they were too lose in the neck which meant my collarbones weren't protected. If you have broad shoulders than a Large may work for you; otherwise get the Sm/Md.

I am the same height and same chest size. I went from a bauer one70 pad size medium to a rbk/jofa 7k in size medium/large. IDK why the giant had them in that size. I've never seen it before, but it fits well.

I'd go with the Size 4 in an RBK shoulder pad for your body stature. The one thing you'll notice when switching over from an Easton shoulder pad is the bulkiness of the top end at the shoulder caps with an RBK. Going to a large will make them feel massive but it'll be a bit easier transition with a medium. Either way your getting really decent protection because in my opinion RBK make the best protection as far as shoulder and shins are concerned.

My shoulders are pretty big and the medium large sizing tag fits my specs perfectly. I think if I went with the small-mediums they wouldn't cover enough space oppose to the medium large around the stomach. Another question is about the transition from Easton to rbks. Does the Rbk pad offer enough mobility despite the huge caps. I palan on picking up some pro stock 7k shouldies but don't know if I should look into the new kinetic reebok shoulders

I'm wearing the 6K Kinetics and have been very happy with the mobility and protection. Granted I'm playing beer league but I put them on since I'm on Plavix and trying to avoid major bruising. Being 5'10", 190 I'm sporting a large and the fit is perfect.

I have the same shoulders that you're thinking about getting. They are not bulky at all. I tried the new kinetic fit shoulders and didn't like them.

If you don't think the size 4 will give you enough coverage because of your wider shoulders, then by all means go to the size 5. As far a mobility is concerned I've never had a problem with RBK/Jofa in that regard. Their design is a bit different from Easton. The larger shoulder caps allow for lots of movement because your shoulder moves underneath the cap fairly freely. Their anotomical fit is very good. The new Kinetic shoulder pads are leaning more towards more flexable torso movement like in Easton or Bauer shoulder pads. I've tried the newer ones and their isn't a big difference between the 8K's I currently use and the newer 10K's as far a mobility in my opinion. Both give me very good movement on the ice but the newer shoulder pads are definitely less bulky than the older ones.

I just tried them on today and heres my opinion:

Size 4 medium: I tried on a a 6k medium (2007) version and it was way too snug and the straps were too short for me. It was very compact and it only covered up to my ribs leaving most of my stomach opened. Since it was so tight around my body I found it was very hard to move around with.

The 6k (2009) version was a bit better, a lot more mobility and the caps were smaller in comparison to the 2007 version. It was lighter then the 2007 model by a bit and I was surprise as it had more mobility but same issue it was just a bit too tight.

Size 5 large: 6k (2007) was a lot better and was definitely very mobile but a bit heavy on the down side. The 6k (2009) was even more comfortable and lighter. Both felt good overall but the shoulder cap on the 2009 model however was more flexible. Another thing about it is the sternum padding, it was very difficult to sorta lean forward imo. The 6k(2007) model had a harder cap and I felt really protected.

I was surprise as I went to pro hockey life and they had the 2007 for $119.99 while the 2009 model was $10 cheaper at $109.99 lol, salesmen had no clue either.. Anyways both felt pretty good and I will probably get the 07 model.

2007 model is jofa-made, 2009 isn't, that's why they can get away with still charging the extra money
