Another foot story

Recommended Posts

I have a story to share lol. As a growing teen who is 17 years old, I cried deeply inside trying on skates today lol. I have always had pain in every pair of retail skates I bought over the years and always searched for that perfect pair. After using a pair of vapor X:shifts for a year they have gotten soft and creasing where the skate bends and was ripping. I decided to go skate shopping today and heres my summary. I was so excited to try on a pair of total ones but they didn't have any in my size so I tried on a pair of one100s..

One100's - My first impression was wow, it was a great looking skate and felt pretty light. Slipped them on my foot and I cried. The pain was physical and mental :P. The skate was STILL not wide enough at all and I had quite a bit of pain at the forefoot width wise. The heel lock was perfect and I couldn't ask for better. I have to admit I really wanted these skates and I really wished they made custom for these....

Reeboks 11k- I thought they were pretty sharp looking and decided to try them on. To my surprise, these felt like my foot was getting crushed under a bulldozer.. I had pain around the midfoot, and a little bit of pain below my inner ankle . These skates was surely not meant for me but style wise they were lol.

se16 - Forefoot felt perfect but the thick ankle pads gave me a sharp pain on the inner ankles but besides that it felt pretty good.

Grafs 709 - These were almost perfect..... Laced them all up and everything felt good. Both my ankles were locked down perfectly, but my forefoot still had a tiny bit of pain. I walked around in these for like 10 mins before my foot went a bit numb..I was advised to try on the G70 although the shop didn't have it and now I have to look around to find a pair of G70's to try on.

Flexlites - I have tried them on before and they felt good in the D width but wasn't deep enough :( and my ankles were moving all over the place..

So right now when I have time I'm going to look around to find some G70's to try on and if they don't fit I will probably have to look into customs.. Any other suggestions haha? I do have a pronation problem but that has been corrected with my custom orthotics but usually they take up quite some depth in the skate.. Is customs the only root?

pic of my monstrous foot.. sorry for the huge pics I keep trying to resize them and nothing seems to work =/

Sorry to hear that, pal. The problem is you have a super monster foot in all respects except for the ankle, so any time a skate is made extra wide and fits your mid/fore-foot, it will be too big on your ankles. My foot is basically a slightly toned down version of yours, except with oversized ankles. Fit is also a bitch for me, so I hear ya. As much as it sucks, you'll probably really have to go custom.

I had numbness after 10 minutes with my Grafs that went away after I had them stretched slightly up front. Also, do you wear orthotics for the pronation?

Yes I do have orthotics tweaked for my foot and made for skates but they do take up a lot of depth of the skate. If I were to go custom what would be the best skate for the price? I would like to try customs through reebok but really I want bauers as they fit really well to begin width except the pain in the forefoot.....but I just can't justify the money to pay for custom totalones when I don't need all those features. Oh how I wish bauer had the option of custom one100s..

Shifter,

It's not the best skate for the price, it's the best skate for your foot..... you can get customs from most companies, just be sure that the shop you go to knows what they're doing when it comes to fitting and ordering the customs. I've been paying the freight for customs since I was in college... get it done right and your feet will thank you and tell you it's worth the cost.... Well maybe not the cost of the TO's....

hahah oh how I would drool for a pair of custom TO's.. I read about customs in other threads where someone said always go with the initial skate that fit properly even though there is a considering amount of pain and hot spots? Can't we convince bauer to make custom one100's :P haha as those were almost the perfect skate. Or its either custom grafs or reeboks. When I'm getting customs wouldn't it be pretty much looking at features? I would like to look for a pair that will last and hold its stiffness.. would the graf be the best option for durability but softer over an extended period of time? But If i was looking for stiffness that will hold which company should I go with...

bump.. any suggestions on brands? :P

I recently did a custom EQ-5 on a guy who had a foot similar to you, narrow heel, EEE forefoot and a lot of depth. They came out great and the minute he slipped them on (before molding) he said they felt great. The retail version should be hitting the stores soon so you may want to try them on as well. Price wasn't too bad either, retail + $100 custom up charge.
