NEW STICK

Recommended Posts

I am looking to get a new stick, currently i have a warrior dolomite tapered shaft with a easton se16 forsberg blade. I like how 2 peices release the puck and how they flex in my hands. I dont like the S19 due to the fact im a little 5'9" 140 lbs forward and i cant seem to preload it enough. I play D1 club hockey and used to play jr. A but i have lost touch on equipment. Any sugestions would help me out, im thinking about a OPS with a long taper, or something wippy.

suggestions/help would be awesome.

Well I don't know about the S19, but the S17 is one of the more whippier sticks out there. They're all more whippy then they're marked as, and the elliptical taper is supposed to help your shot in some way.

Well that wasn't that useful of a post, but you can get S17s these days for quite cheap on eBay or other online stores. I'm sure everyone here would agree that it's a great stick, except some people may have durability problems. I never did though.

You're about the same height as me, and I cut sticks to about my nose. That said I was playing around with the Dolo Spyne (greyish chrome one) in a 75 flex. And they feel very whippy for their rating. Maybe it's me, but I use anything from a 70 flex Synergy II to a pro flex Vapor XV and the 75 flex feels whippier han stated. May e it's me but it's an idea.

Try searching for other threads, it will probably answer your question as it's been discussed in depth before.

A one95 ? From what I hear you can sort of feel the stick delay on a shot as it loads and releases, and it would have a similar "damp" feeling that a wood blade gives. They come in INT 67 and 77 flexes I believe but cant confirm as well as SR 77 flex.

Or if you like your dolomite shaft, why not get the one piece. They have the warrior tapered replacement blade and are fused using a stronger substance than the shaft/blade version.

Also Reebok 10k SR 75 flex is also 2" shorter at 58" rather than the 60" other sticks are usually at. Have no experience with this stick at all though and do not know anyone who owns one for any input.

I'd think that the Dolo OPS or 2 piece setup would still be a good choice... especially since you already know that you like them.

If you like two-piece, check out Harrow. I just used one after a long stick search and love it. They have tons of options and they're way cheaper to buy and replace than almost anything else out there (at least with the 50% off discount code).

If your willing to spend the money and can wait, go with a Bauer ID stick. I just got a One95 Intermediate 75 flex, and it's awesome. I am 5'8" and I didn't have to cut it, so it's a true 75 flex for me. It's a mid flex stick, so they tend to feel a whippier than the lower flex sticks.

The RBK 10K Mid flex was very stiff in my opinion. Sold mine b/c it was too stiff.

Bauer ID is the next best thing to finding the perfect pro stock IMO. I broke an 82 flex g3 one95 with a modified p92 pattern. Been trying to find more since

one 95 comes in 67 and 75 for intermediate flexs. Senior comes in 77. Not really a difference between 75 and 77 but I thought I'd just throw that out there

That's a good point, especially considering at 5'9" he'll be cutting down the senior stick and increasing the stiffness....depending on stick length prefrence the Senior 77 flex may end up 100-110 flex. If the Int stick is long enough that would be a good choice, save some $'s too.

thanks guys

i believe i am gonna try to go with an intermediate OPS. I never really thought about it cause i use senior shafts already, but im going to try it and hope it holds up. as for what stick, im not too sure yet. I will probably buy a Easton SE16 or a S17 (maybe) w/ zetterberg. Or go to a dolomite Vanek.

Does anyone know what stick has the longest taper zone? do you think its a bad idea to go to intermediate?

I'm 5'10" and always used to use senior sticks cut down 2". Got my first intermediate stick recently (CCM U+ crazy light, 75 flex) and I will never look back. Best stick I have ever used. It's only intermediate sticks for me from now on.

If you're thinking about trying Easton, I'd give the new ST a shot. I bought one in 75 flex and really like it. It seems to load up more towards the middle of the shaft (ala One95) and I could really feel it flex on snap shots. They have them available in intermediates as well. I've always heard good things about the ST's durability as well, although the blade on mine snapped in half in about 2 or 3 weeks.
