My CCM U+ Pro skates are already falling apart

Recommended Posts

I've seen this mentioned before, but after less than 3 months of use, the quarter package on my 08 U+ Pros is starting to bubble. Luckily I'm still within the 90 warranty period for the boot. Very disappointing because I've gotten them broken in and they are very comfortable.

Anyone have any experience with warranty issues with CCM regarding skates?

Not me personally, but I heard a lot about the '08 Pros falling apart easily. Probably why they are on close out for like $200.

A guy on my team had the back of the skate tearing apart. He called CCM and they are sending him new skates as long as he sends his back. Pretty sure he's out of warranty which is really cool.

Yeah the 08's suck. Worse durability than the first batch of S15s. You should be getting some reloadeds. And yeah, there is a reason why they pulled these skates off the shelf after 1 year, and offered to buy back skates from dealers so long as they ordered the same amount as they did previously.

Unfortunately, although the 08 U+ skates were quite revolutionary, in the essence of the rocket runners, they had lots of flaws. The package is just one of them. There were also durability issues with the runner. However the new Reloaded skates were much better. The new package is more durable and they got rid of the runner. Most NHLers switced to them too. Except Tavares still uses the rocket runner. And Ovie actually likes the '08 quarter package better and gets that on his skates. That and a Tuuk Ls 2 runner.

There were not durability issues with the runner, there were issues with skate sharpeners not knowing how to properly sharpen them. It's actually a great runner and if sharpened properly will last a long time. As for the skate...yes, the package film was a stupid idea. Really cosmetic, but if I bought a skate and in 2 months was bubbling, I wouldn't be too happy.

So if I bought a pair of 08 ccms and they broke I would get U+ reloadeds? Now I feel dumb for buying my reloaded at full price.

no, they send you 2nd generation U+ Pro's

Not in my experience, and a few others I am aware of. Maybe this was the case before the Reloaded's were introduced, and during their recall of the 08's. Myself and everyone I know who has had the issue and returned them under warranty got the Reloaded model.

They will definitely not replace mine with the reloaded model. They said I can pay the difference and they will give me the 09 model or the reloaded, but otherwise they will only replace with the 08's. This is through Hockey Monkey. I called CCM and they don;t handle their own warranty claims, it's done through the retailer.

At this point, I might just keep the skates because I like the feel and I don't want to have to break in a new pair.

That is strange. I had gotten my skates through Hockey Monkey but when they started falling apart I didn't even bother contacting them. I figured that I would either be told I was screwed because I got the skates on clearance or because the 08's were notorious for the problems just because they didn't want to bother with the transaction. Plus, the eventual location was a lot closer to me than is Hockey Monkey; I would have had to literally ship the skates right past where they would be eventually going, only to have HM ship them back to that location, then have them sent back to HM for me to pay to have them sent all the way back to me. Rather then deal with the possibility of a run-around from Hockey Monkey, I just contacted CCM directly. I found the Customer Service number online, called them, figured out the right number or department, and after explaining the situation I had a RA# and address to ship the skates to, they just wanted the receipt in the box with them. It took me less than 10 minutes-Reloaded's showed up in 2 weeks.

This was at the beginning of the year, I can't imagine that much has changed since then. I'd forget the HM route and try contacting CCM headquarters in Montreal again. Like I said, in my experience there was no question and they made it right pretty fast under the warranty.

I contacted CCM directly, twice. The first time they told me to go through HM, which is when I contacted them. After I found out that HM wasn't going to do anything other than replace them with the same skates I called CCM again. I expressed my disappointment and frustration but they did not offer to replace the skates for me. He did take my name and number, but didn't say if they were going to do anything for me.
