CCM V08 helmet issue

Recommended Posts

I've got a V08 helmet and love it. Had it since about mid-January, and I'm noticing a something that has me concerned. The one screw that holds the cage on in the front seems to be dethreading and coming loose. I tightened it up and partway through my 2nd time out, about 5 hours on the ice, it was loosened up again. The cage is held on by metal clips and the one that keeps coming undone seems to be bent a bit off. I'm worried that this is either going to ruin the helmet itself or the threaded insert part that the screw screws into. Has anyone else had a problem like this with this helmet, or any other helmet and cage with metal clips? Should I try and bend the clip? Should I try some plastic clips I have from my old helmet? Any other ideas?

I just spent some time looking it over and I think I figured out what's causing the issue. The female part is poorly glued onto the foam. It's slightly skewed which prevents it from fitting snugly into the plastic of the helmet. I got it squared away as best I could without totally destroying things. What I also noticed was the way the clips were formed. When lifting the cage it torqued the clips which pulled on everything. I'm going to try to bend the clips to get the most secure hold while still offering enough free movement of the cage to swing upwards. I don't know why they went with stiff metal clips, it just doesn't seem like a good choice.

If the loctite doesn't work then I would get new replacement parts from your LHS as previously suggested. It's probably best.
