wrangler 157 Report post Posted June 1, 2010 I was under the impresison that kijiji was a canadian site only, so I assumed it was a canadian issue. I could be wrong as well though.Well, that certainly explains our difference of opinion.I'd never heard of kiijji, and thought it was a username. I see now the original post says "on kijiji", not "by kijiji", but I wouldn't have known the site anyway. And if it's an international transaction, I wouldn't know how to apply the law. bostonjuniorblackhawks 1 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 ya, but in regards in meeting in person, Im just weary in meeting strangers online, especially with this whole craigslist killer thing.I just throw a nine iron in my trunk as a precaution. I've been okay for the 8 or so times I've met someone to buy or sell something
hamstercaster 2 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 I've sold/bought many things on Kijiji and UsedOttawa and never had a problem except once where the guy called me just as I was getting to his home to tell me that he had to go now and he couldn't wait the extra 2 minutes for me to get there. However, depending on the email exchange and how much I thought I could trust the person I was dealing with, I'd bring my brother with me. As for the Craiglist killings I haven't heard anything about it and might just be a hoax but who knows. I still think that you should call the cops just in case and email/call the guy to let him know that you have done so. If that doesn't work, like I stated earlier, you should have his home address since you shipped him your stuff so you could have him served with a Small Claims Court Law Suit. Just make sure that you have kept each and every single piece of emails just in case.
dayroc 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 OP if you have his address and contact info. You should email him and tell him, in a very professional manner, that you ahve 2 police buddies who will be dropping by the scammers residents in a few days if he does not reply. zrez 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 I just want to add, wether or not the police do anything criminal wise, they will (should)create a file and give you the number. Just more documentation for you.
samson35 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 Yea, I've already sent him an e-mail letting him know that I will give him a day to sort things out or else I'm contacting the local authorities. I explained why I was doing it and stuff. I have a record of all his e-mails that he sent me, but for some reason, I can't find the one with his address....it's really weird. I have a chain of about 20 odd e-mails and not a single one has his address. All I remember is his city, but I know this is hurting me a lot by not knowing the address. samson35 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 It's in Boston, I'm in Canada now. I was told by him on the day I was leaving that the package I had been waiting for was returned to his place. By then I had all my things packed up for a couple days already. I had never thought it would come to this at that point.

starsfan71 9 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 When you say you have 2 cop buddies coming that would imply that they are doing it for you as a favor and not with the law. That could get you in a whole mess of trouble. At least in America it can be. One of my brothers is a police officer and said he would have no trouble arresting somebody who made that "threat"

One of my brothers is a police officer and said he would have no trouble arresting somebody who made that "threat"Ok, so just say "Two of my buddies are cops. They may swing by, so just be ready if a couple of police officers show up at your doorstep to discuss how you scammed me, buddy."So you're just stating you have two friends who happen to be cops. They may or may not swing by for a cup of tea, and just tell the guy to be ready in case a couple of cops who may or may not be your friends show up to discuss the crime which breaks the law that he committed. :)

Ok, let him arrest them. Nothing will come out of it. If your brother did arrest someone for saying that it would be a complete waste of his time. Thats quite funny. Does your brother arrest kids for skateboarding at the gas staion too?Id also like to mention, arresting someone and charging someone with a crime are two different things. you wouldnt get charged simply for implying that you have two cop buddies who are gonna come to your house. One of my brothers is a police officer and said he would have no trouble arresting somebody who made that "threat"I'd be extremely interested in seeing that. I'm very curious how that's a "threat", when it's a statement that a police officer is coming to question you, about a possible crime, and perhaps arrest you. Also you do know police officers keep your communities safe? Yea they can be a pain in the ass but I would like to see a day in your life without them. Next time you risk your life for 50 grand a year you can talk. An arrest can follow you, even if you aren't charged. He says you take buddies out and that statement is a good way to go through with it.

Maybe you should sit the next one out.As for arresting him, i'd like to know what your brother would be arresting him for, because for the life of me I cant find an offence that fits that. As for your comment about an arrest following you, it doesnt. Unless you are being charged for something you dont get fingerprints or pictures or anything. Hell, people get arrested and released on the side of the road all the time with no one ever finding out.
