PPFi glove sizing

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Looking to purchase some PPFi's from an online retailer, an 09 model. However online the description is 12.5". I looked in the 2009 eagle catalogue and there's no such thing. Can I assume that they're just 13" gloves? I called and made sure they aren't a custom batch or anything, just a run of the mill standard PPFi... but they can't seem to tell me why it's 12.5" and not 13". Surprisingly the lady on the phone seemed relatively restless when I asked her, and just said what it says on the site is what it is...

Thanks in advance

Every time I've seen the PPFi's they're listed as 12.5". I don't own a pair but a guy on my team let me use his for a little bit during practice and they fit perfect on my hands for my personal liking. They did fit a little different than most my 13" gloves just a tad smaller but not a huge difference at all. I would compare them to Nike Bauer Supreme imo.

My experience is limited to the '09 model, but the initial fit is much tighter than 13" gloves I've worn. However, after break in, the difference is less significant. However, they still seem like they are on the narrower end of the spectrum.

I think finger length would be why most people think it fits towards the smaller side. IMO if you disregard the finger length, the ppf fits like any other tighter fitting 14in glove.

I think this statement is exactly right. I wore Easton Air gloves before I became a glove whore collector and I always wore 12 1/2. I think the body of the PPFi fits like a 13 but the "shorter fingers" that everyone talks about are comparable to a 12.5

since I was home and bored I took a pic:

the green finger is from an Easton Air size 12. the grey finger is an pre-buyout Eagle PPFi. you can see that the index finger is significantly shorter. the gloves are lined up better than it looks in the picture.

the other fingers are sized about the the same in both gloves. the only other exception is the pinky which is also shorter on the PPFi.

overall the Eagle PPFi is a MUCH bigger glove than the Easton 12:

disclaimer: these Easton Airs are probably about 6-8 years old.

The reason I returned my PPFi's was because I couldn't get a good grip with the top hand. When I'd grab the end of the stick, it was almost as if the palm was stretched too tight across the top of the hand and my ring and pinky fingers would come out of the glove fingers a bit. The pointer and middle fingers were a bit short. Strange fit.

Anyways, I just got a pair of 12" TPS R8's and they fit very well but super tight, which will break in and then they should be perfect. I figure if every 13" glove on the market is a bit loose, get a 12" glove and break it in.

Hey Guys, I emailed Eagle hockey and they only took 5 minutes to respond!

Hi Leslie,

Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in purchasing Eagle

Hockey gloves!

In response to your email regarding our PPFi gloves, they are not

available in a 12.5" size - only 13"/14"/14.5". If they have them

listed on their website as a 12.5", they are mistaken. If you have

tried on a pair of PPFi gloves in other stores, they should fit the

same. The only way I can see that you'd find a difference is if you

tried on a pair of older PPFi's that were made in 2009 or previous years

because this year we added some additional padding to the inside of the

hand and fingers, so they may fit a bit more snug if they are a 2010

model. However, they are still considered a 13" glove.

There are 2 ways you would be able to tell if they are a 2008/2009 or

2010 model:

1. Palm - 2009 is all charcoal grey and 2010 is the same grey with a

black overlay (patch over thumb area)

2. Inside cuff opening - is a bright orange for 2010; It was black in

previous years. The orange liner is a new "quick dry" material that we

introduced this year.

I hope this helps you out and I would be happy to provide further

assistance if you do have any additional questions.

Thanks,

The pre-buyout PPFi's fit like typical 13's and the newer version fits closer to a 12.5 in my opinion. They added some padding to the inside of the fingers on the new version without extending the finger space, making for a very tight fit. I have not broken in my pair yet, but I imagine it loosens up after a while; off the shelf it's going to feel like putting your hands in a pair of cheap snow gloves.

By the way the older versions are great gloves, but some people complain about the rough feeling on the top of their fingers. This never bothered me though. My one complaint is the thumb position on my lower hand. It just felt like I couldn't close my hand around the shaft, so I cut the material connecting the thumb to the glove & added a longer piece.

I recently bought a pair of Pre-Vaughn PPFi"s from hockey monkey which were listed as a 12.5" and as you all have mentioned they fit very very snugly on my hand. I was expecting the glove to fit more like a 13" but my fingers were too long. The fingers are absolutely shorter than ones in a 13" glove. I agree with rangers1234 that my thumb position on my lower hand did not allow me to close my hand around the shaft. Great glove just too small for me.
