Rangers 2010-2011

Recommended Posts

Wow.

This team is actually good...

With all of their injuries I'd love to see how they do with a healthy roster.

And then we lose to the Panthers (again). Seriously?

Thank goodness Callahan and Prospal have been activated.

For some reason this team isn't very good against certain teams, namely Philly and Montreal. Maybe Panthers as well?

I wouldn't be expecting much from Prospal. He did far more than his fair share last season...

It was a hell of an effort to claw back against the 'Cats from a 2 goal defecit in the third. A well-played game, with a funny bounce that cost them two points. I guess it makes up for the funny bounce that got them 2 pts against the Caps. Don't let the fact that it was a loss take away from the effort. This Blueshirts team is far different than last year's team.

Prospal is still at least 3 weeks away from playing, the only reason he was activated was because with all the guys they sent back down they only had 19 guys on the roster... Don't be surprised if you don't see Prospal get in a game at all this year. I appreciate everything he did last year and I hate to see a guy lose his spor because of injury, but with the way the kids are playing which one would you take out to put him in? The only guy I'd be ok with them taking out to put Prospal in is Drury.

Not to mention his age, missing this much game time at the point he's at in his career is huge.

Probably won't sign him next season, and they probably won't sign Frolov either, so for the first time in a few years they have a decent team with a little wiggle room regarding the cap.

What great timing for the All Star Break...lol

No doubt — Prospal and definitely Frolov are gone next season. From everything I've heard, the Rangers are going to push hard for Richards. I know it's very early to predict but just thinking about these two lines makes me grin.

Dubinsky - Richards - Gaborik

Zuccarello - Stepan - Callahan

Not to mention you've got Boyle and Anisimov who will be coming off career years (moreso Boyle than AA) What I'm just as excited about is the D-corps. Staal and Girardi are only going to get better. I really like what I've seen from Sauer, Gilroy and McDonagh — hell even Eminger has been impressive!

Brad Richards?

Yes. Talk is that if Dallas doesnt resign him, the Rangers are going to go hard after Richards.

If they sign Richards for $5M, that will leave them with 9 guys to sign/replace and about $12M-$13M in cap space. Guys like Callahan, Dubinsky, Anisimov and Boyle will all be due raises and are RFA. At a minimum, that's $8-$9M tied up in those guys.

You forgot Sauer and Gilroy as RFA's but are you factoring in Prospal, Frolov and possibly Eminger not being resigned? Prospal and Frolov combined is 5.2 mill if I'm not mistaken.

I think Sather will make it work. Richards will either be a Star, Ranger or Leaf next year.

According to capgeek, they have $16~17M cap space next season with the following players in FA. Current annual salary in parenthesis.

Frolov ($3M)

Prospal ($2.4M)

Callahan ($2.3M)

Dubinsky ($1.9M)

Fedotenko ($1M)

Anisimov ($875,000)

Boyle ($525,000)

Gilroy ($1.9M)

Eminger ($1.1M)

Sauer ($500,000)

No brainers: Callahan, Dubinsky, Anisimov. Callahan, Dubinsky at $2.5~3M, Anisimov at $2M seems fine.

Probably should resign: Boyle, Gilroy Sauer. Boyle for $1.5M, Gilroy $2M, Sauer ~$1M.

Goners: Frolov, Prospal.

If they decide to resign Fedotenko and Eminger, they will not have room for a big cap hit like Richards. Buyout Drury, then, maybe.

Well you can almost definitely count Frolov + Prospal out. I'm sure some trades will happen as well. Dont expect to see Eric Christensen on the team next season. Drury's no movement clause makes things hard with him but maybe a buyout might be the best move. 4 pts in 28 games at 7.1 million is just depressing. He should retire.

That's a bold prediction. Richards is 30, almost 31 years old. He will be reaching the tail end of his career soon. He has said he wants to be on a winning team with cup chances, which isn't exactly in the predictions for either of those Eastern teams at this point.

Or he could follow in-line and sign for big $$$ like others....i.e. Drury/Gomez.

Except I think that unlike those two clowns, Richards will continue to produce.

Prospal participated in full contact practice today. No offense but, whomever said he's done for the season didn't have very accurate sources.

I only counted salary committed for next year and a couple of the RFAs for an example. No way they can bring everyone back and add a guy like Richards.

That's what I said when I heard Phil Esposito and John Davidson talking about it on NHL Home Ice XM radio show. It's the general concensus on Twitter from all of the beat writers that Richards will end up with one of those three teams. We shall see.

As for his age, the guy is still going to produce.

If he finishes the year with Dallas and they put together a good playoff run or gets traded and wins the cup, his plans may very well change.

I def dont expect them to bring back everyone. As much as I like Eminger and Fedotenko, I'd take Richards over both of them in a heartbeat — especially with McIlrath potentially being ready.

They still have to get 23 guys on the roster and under the cap

boyle is going to be due for a pretty big raise from $525,000 even if this is a fluke for him. i dont think richards is the solution to the rangers problems - but at least the rangers aren't stuck like new jersey w/kovalchuk. which is funny because that is what the rangers were famous for doing in the past (throwing big money at one player).
