Itech Shields

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering for you guys who have had one, what your opinions of them are. I'm talking about the cheaper ones, like Datsuyk and Maltby wear. I know that the higher Itech models, and especially Oakleys will be better, but I don't want to spend $60+ on a visor for pick up this summer. My main question is about the vision. I've heard that there is some level of distortion with the cheaper ones, is that true? Thanks.

Only familiar with the $40 pro-wave but I liked it better then my Oakley. It doesn't seem to mark up as easily and is less expensive. Only drawback is it's not as optically transparent.

i used to have one of the cheaper itech ones like maltby wears. i never really noticed any distortion. i've tried some of the newer expensive ones from players on my teams, and i never really could see a gratiutous amount of difference from the cheap ones to the expensive. for the price, its not that bad of a visor.

I have an Itech RBE I from a few years ago I don't use anymore. Actually most of the time I don't use any visor anymore but also have an Oakley straight. The Oakley is obviously a higher quality visor but I don't think the Itech is bad for the price. As far as vision distortion with the Itech I would say it's minimal. The only complaint I have with the Itech is some minor fogging, basically near the nose "cut out".

I used Itech's for about 6 years and never had a problem with vision. Last year I switched to an Oakley only because I couldn't find another Itech. Although the optics are much better with the Oakley, the Itech is still a good visor.

does the distortion from the Itechs come from peripheral vision or is it just an in general distortion no matter where you are looking. I'm going to be getting a visor soon too. I like the idea of eye protection but I'd rather not have one at all if I have to pay $60 to get one. If the distortion isn't a problem though I'm going to pick one up.

There's a little bit of distortion with the RBE1, but it's peripheral, and most people don't even notice. I like the #41 (RBE PRO) better, the sides taper in a little closer to the cheeks and the nose cutout is much more gradual. It's basically the same shield that Larry Murphy wore (the Cosby shield) and it has, if I remember correctly, anti-fog and anti-scratch coatings.

I've tried a Itech RBE I visor for a couple of skates and the distortion is hard to describe. Things just looked wired through it and it made me feel dizzy after a few minutes.

Take it for what it's worth, I'm a cage guy thus no visor expert.

I used an RBE1 for many years (until switching to an Oakley Aviator Cut last year, which IS well worth the money).

I think the RBE1 was well worth the $22-$25 USD. I usually bought a new one every 8-12 months due to scratches. I had a bottle of "scratch remover" for it, but it didn't seem to work real well. Also it seemed to fog up a bit even if de-fogger spray was used. However the "shampoo on the visor" pre-game treatment seemed to work excellent on this visor and kept the fogging to a minimum.

Another question: how well does it fit on a Nike 0004/Bauer 4000?

The RBE fits fine on the Bauer 4000, I used one on a medium, my brother used one on a large last year. It fit fine on both sizes if that helps.

Yeah, sounds like you guys described the RBE as I would.

However it is a cheaper alternative to those who don't wanna plunk down $60. I just got in a whole bunch if you are looking for one, Kosy.

Another problem is that it is longer than an Oakley/ProWave, therefore will have a tendency to fog up more than said shields.

try the hx-50 optech. The thing costs a lot but the replacements are fairly cheap and for vision, it's pretty good.

I think the replacements for them are like 2 for $40 CAN which isn't bad. It's the official visor of the OHL so you'll see them if you go there, or you can just go to Itech's website.

40 to 60 bucks is well worth the investment compared to a lifetime of blindness in an eye, or breathing through a broken nose...

I think he means as opposed to spending 20-25 on a shield. He wasn`t suggesting not wearing a visor.

Right now I'm going visor-less, and its been good. But when I start back up, playing in something other than the beer leagues, I'll definitely pick up a visor.

Itech makes fairly good visors. I have the tinted mirrored HS22 pro wave half visor, and i love it. Best of all, the mirrored visor looks soo niice. Maybe I'll post some pics up, its super sexy.

I just picked up an Itech RBE1 shield. I have used it once and expierienced no distortion what-so-ever. I haven't used it in a game yet though, first game of the season is tomorrow, man I am so psyched. But anyway, I do get some issues with fog, nothing major though.
