your ballot

Recommended Posts

thought it would be cool if everyone posted who was on their ballot, and see how it stacks up on the day of the game.Im sure alot of you will vote more than once and change some of your votes , but im talkin about your first ballot. Mine was as follows :

F - Crosby ,pittsburgh is dead last in the league right now without him.

F - Semin ,( write in ) this cat is so hot, a smoke cloud is hovering over D.C.

F - Stamkos , needs thrown into the 87 vs 8 conversation , because he is one of the best in the game right now.

D - Robidas ,doing it all for Dallas , PP , PK lots of tough minutes , and is near the top in scorin D

D - Letang, ( write in ) highest scoring D-man in the league ,on a team, near the top of the league in shots against

G - Backstrom , it would be easy to say Tim Thomas right now but this guy deserves alot of credit

F- Franzen I dont think he'll get alot of votes and he deserves them

F- Perron, gotta vote for the fellow MSH'er and he's pretty fun to watch

F- Stamkos great skill and knack for goal scoring

D- Doughty arguably the best defenseman in the league right now definitely IMO the best young defenseman

D- Byfuglien all around player he rushes and plays strong defensively my favorite player right now

G- Miller he's just a solid goalie

Robidas doesn't even have half as many points as the leaders among defensemen.

Forwards are probably the easiest part of the ballot in years.

Crosby

Ovechkin

Stamkos

Defensemen, well I've already tipped my hand on one vote

Lidstrom - to not have this guy on any ballot is pure folly

Leopold - putting up points and a plus player on a struggling Sabres team

Goalie

Thomas - save percentage is ridiculous and 4 shutouts already, guy is off to a crazy start. Offseason hip surgery seems to have done the trick. Bobrovsky could have gotten my pick if it wasn't his first year in the league. I've seen too many flash in the pan goalies to give him his due this early.

My 2/3 write in ballot... Anyone who feels they need to vote for Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos for them to make the team is mistaken.

Forwards:

Tomas Plekanec

Alexander Semin

Patrick Sharp

D:

John-Michael Liles

Dustin Byfuglien

Goalie:

Jonathan Quick

It isn't so much a case of them making the team so much as it is that they are the 3 best gunners in the game right now. Sure, there are plenty of guys that deserve to be named to the All Star game and when I do another ballot or two I'll address those merit players but for a first ballot there really is no choice.

i dont think it's about that ( dont vote for 87,8,91 because there automatics ). they get the votes because they ARE the 3 best players in the league. so people will vote for the best. + i really like your liles vote , hes playin great hockey!

I would not argue against the fact that they are the 3 best gunners in the game right now... The game wouldn't make sense if those guys weren't there. Guess I just like taking a different viewpoint with the selections, because we all know those guys will undoubtedly be there.

I am biased. I would vote for players that I like, and would like to see in the all-star game. I don't feel compelled to vote for guys who are definitely make the game/starting lineup... even if they're having a better season than the guys I pick. That being said, I'd try to vote for guys that one could at least make a reasonable argument for including in the roster.

Thomas

Chara

Lidstrom

(Maybe Wisniewski, even though I hate the Isles, I kinda feel sorry for them... plus just to pick someone a little off the wall. He's putting up solid numbers on a lousy team and leading them in scoring.)

Giroux

Richards

Derek Roy

The fact that guys like Semin, Price, Dubinsky, Sharp, Williams and Horton are all snubs makes me not even care about the all-star game. In fact, they ought to re-name it the "Popular-by-name-game".

I put Paul Bissonette on there because hes so funny on Twitter. Other forwards are Datsyuk and Stamkos.

Lidstrom on D, with Doughty, and Jimmy Howard on D. (Homer pick in goal for sure.)

I guess I went with the most obvious ballot but whatever, fan vote means nothing. The fans are gonna vote for the most obvious guys and the Players/GMs/coaches will be responsible for the snubs. Lets be real, is Semin not going to be an all star? Yeah he will.

Stamkos

Ovechkin

Crosby

Green

Leopold

Thomas

With the timing of when the ballots are put together they really can't take much of the current season into account. Honestly, after the last couple of seasons, would you really have put Price on the ballot without seeing his play so far this year? For Horton, he is having a good season but he came to a team with several other options and you can't have a ballot overloaded from a single team. That is probably what also kept guys like Sharp and Semin from being on there.

I think that's a problem that should be addressed. Maybe move the production of the ballots back and shorten the voting window so that the ballot represents the players who are having good years in the current season. If you just take the Montreal example, Gionta and Markov are on there when Markov has barely played (and is injured again) and Gionta only recently started to produce; whereas, Plekanec and Price, who have been the two best players for the Habs this season, are absent. It's obvious that the ballot is put together based on past performance rather than the current season - now, some of these ommissions will be corrected through write in votes, but it'd be ideal to have as many truly deserving candidates on the ballot as possible (and get rid of the ones like Niemi who had good seasons the year before, but aren't doing well enough to be considered All Stars this season).

With the internet being the majority of the voting, players can be added/removed at the very last second before launching the website. It's a total shame when players who deserve to be on the ballot are not.

I'm going to use the Rangers as a perfect example. While Gaborik is indeed an all-star caliber player he is NOT having an "all-star" year yet. He has been injured for the past 3 weeks and only just now came back. In his absence guys like Dubinsky, Callahan and Boyle have really stepped up and I think all THREE of them deserve to be on the ballot. Writing them in is not enough.

Oh well. All-Star games in any sport generally suck. Cant wait for the next Olympics. That was the best Hockey I've watched since the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals.

While last night's game against the Flyers was one of the craziest games I've seen in a while, performances like Stamkos had last night will keep him in the discussion for the foreseeable future:)

i hope so , as i like stamkos. i remember when malkin was in that discussion too. But its always sid and ovie. its staying power , i think stamkos has but for malkin i think he plays up and down to the level of importance of the game?

WRITE-IN PRICE LEADS ALL GOALIES IN ALL-STAR GAME VOTING

I guess Montreal & Phily fans have been busy. At least with Price it is legit.

Unlike that debacle two years ago when they had 8 (?) players in the game. That's probably one of the factors that led to the new formula. Whatever city the game was played in would have a bunch of players from the hometown team.
