wide skates

Recommended Posts

Some scumbag stole my hockey equipment last night so now I have to deal with the hassle of getting new skates. I've been wearing bauer 8090's for years and am looking for something similar, I need a wide skate due to wide flat feet. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Have you tried the current supremes? They're not as wide as the 8090 but the one70 is a good place to start

Widest skate I've ever used is a Kor Shift 2. As far as retail, Graf x9 series might be an option

I used to wear 709's and really liked them. That's an option but Grafs are hard to find though. I don't think I'm going back to Bauers because I don't really like the backwards pitch that they have.

If you find a pair of bauers that do fit, you can have a good local shop shim up the holder. Or you could get a forward pitch profile.

Yup, Supremes fit my wide foot the best, but I hated the pitch on them, so I had a forward profile put on the steel and a lift put under the holder and now they feel perfectly comfortable.

Try stuff on and just go for the best fit as that is the most important thing. On ice feel can then be adjusted with profiling and lifts as needed.

I've been getting the 8090's profiled for years, I'm just thinking if I have to buy new skated anyway maybe I can cut out that extra expense and hassle in the process.

Look at MLX. They're mold to your feet so its not a big deal if you have wide feet

I don't expect heatmolding to fix a sole thats too narrow. It'll just cause discomfort and inadequate support.

MLX looks like an interesting skate but it's out of my price range

If the 50% discount still works, its still cheaper than most top end skates. MLX is said to do a custom boot from a trace of your foot with no extra change if the regular ones don't fit your feet. Sounds pretty good if its true.

standard MLX's didn't fit my wide foot. So they took a trace of my foot and send me a new wide pair for free, on their dime (shipping too). It is just service that can't be beat. HIGHLY recommend them, both for their service, and their skate quality.

I got mine with the 50% coupon. I think you can still find them on either their youtube page or their facebook page

This is true. Also, I'm not sure about the 50% off as mentioned above, but I heard that they lowered the price for a better value. I'm not sure if it's true, but it's worth checking out.

Also heard that they throw in a t-shirt.

Sorry to hear your skates got stolen man. But on the bright side, at least you get to experience new skates, whatever you may get.

I have a very wide forefoot and love Eastons. It might be worth trying on a few pairs at your LHS to see what feels good to you.

Ditto on the Eastons..one of the widest toecaps (other than the 8090) that I've tried.
