CCM Dominates the AHL

Recommended Posts

I watched a Manitoba Moose vs Hamilton Bulldogs game on Sportnet today. First, the calibre of hockey is amazing to watch. Second, CCM really shines! The hockey uniform looks best when the players are all in the same helmet.

I also saw some of the Reebok sticks.

The only thing not included is skates. Players are free to wear whatever skates they want, and for some reason jerseys are still S&P ( I think that is the name). But everything else is THC.

I like the helmet/pants all matching, like you said...finishes off the uniform look.

It would appear that Pro Tacks are the glove of choice, but there are a few RBK and even a couple Jofa's on Hamilton. Lots of guys using the RBK stick. Interesting, the Moose had a few guys using KOHO OPS. Bright yellow, I thought they were synergies at first...I was wondering how they snuck through the league.

Wade Flaherty (Moose goalie) had his stick painted all black and was wearing Eagle pads, FYI.

THC gets jerseys next year, the SP contract is still in place for this year. I only saw one non-THC stick last night, Radulov was using an XN10. No CCMS broke but 6 RBKs did.

Note to self - Reebok 6K is still being fine tuned....

Chadd - did you notice any Reebok shafts or blades besides the ops?

I haven't seen that many in one game...but yeah RBK's seem to be breaking a lot. I don't think I've seen a broken CCM yet.

I guess that's what they are keeping track (http://www.modsquadhockey.com/index.php?showtopic=5495)

Graz:

No shafts and blades that I saw, but I could have missed one or two.

The only shafts I've seen for the Amerks this season have been CCM Vector shafts.

In some other games I've seen a player or two using a yellow Koho shaft.

And I have yet to see a Reebok blade.

Its tough going from using whatever you like to having to use only a certain brand.

None of us would like to have no coice in the gear we use, so imagine at thier level.

Elly is endorsed by Easton and all he can use is the synergy skates.

There are a few guys on Norfolk using the Reebok stick and sounds as though they arent bad. Kind of a lesser of two evils with that or a Vector.

Good game Chadd??

Given the choice I can't imagine it being as bad as the vector.

Terrible game, Norfolk had a good burst and scored 2 in under a minute, then sat back. Elly had a nice back door goal on the PP and got an assist on a weak goal off the rush. He was getting beat around pretty well, he needs to bulk up a bot or he's going to break down from the abuse. Hershey has a lot of guys that are just floating right now, then they have a couple that hit everyone they can catch. It wasn't an entertaining game at all. It may be the last one I see for a while.

he got bounced around pretty hard last night and had some troubles in the first game I saw as well. He's a good player but, like most minor league guys, isn't consistant on every shift. He's way better than I am and it's just a comparative observation about pro hockey.

Hahha, sorry man, I wasn't referring to your observation personally.

My point was that the players are just huge, so Matty at 5'11" and about a buck 98 seems small, when really that used a fair size for the sport.

I'm 5'8" and 165 lbs. Corey Locke (Habs draft pick playing in Hamilton) is 5'9" and 170 lbs. I can't imagine a guy that is so close top me in size being able to play in the AHL (which often times is tougher, physically than the NHL).

Mike Comrie and Martin St. Louis are obvious exceptions.

On the other side of the coin, Hamilton currently has 2 guys that the Hamilton Tiger Cats (CFL) might want for their playoff run. Dan Focht (6'6" 240 lbs) & Raitis Ivanans (6'6" 245+ lbs**)

** the Dogs site lists him at 245, hockeydb says 250, but I've heard him called 260

Nice... I saw Ivanans play in Pensacola a bunch. He wouldn't hit anybody and tried to play everybody with his stick when he was there. He must've figured out that part of the North American game if he's sticking in the AHL with the lockout situation and all.

Locke didn't rack up over 140 pts. these past two OHL seasons for no reason. He may be the next Comrie or St. Louis for all we know.

Who was the London foward who got drafted pretty high this year, but they didn't even play him in their 7th game because he was a defensive hazard? I remember hearing that at the draft and it confused the hell out of me. He was one of the highest scoring players in the OHL and they benched him, but then he's a high first rounder?
