Random XXV lace bite

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm a junior in high school, and I got some XXVs in 11.5 E in February of my freshman year. They've held up well and haven't given me problems, until about less than two weeks ago I got spontaneous debilitating lace bite, mostly in my left foot. I have no idea why it's happening, I've always tightened my skates to hell, and the only modifications I've made are superfeet insoles, which would more than likely be helping the problem, not adding to it.

So far I haven't tried to remedy it, but I'll try skipping the last eyelet tomorrow, and if that doesn't seem to help, I'll invest in some lace bite pads. Any other suggestions?

If it's STILL unsolved after that, I'll reconsider getting new skates. I'd say it's mostly between X50s/X60s and 11ks, however the 11ks appeal to me more because I've heard they're more customizable, and the balance between support and flexibility.

Also, are the E pro holders on the 11ks comparable to tuuk lightspeed 2s?

I had the same problem for a while with XXVs. What I did to make it go away: get new waxed laces. This will change the pressure points when you are lacing up. I also took a mousepad and cut out a part to further protect my arch until the pain had gone away. Nowadays I do not have this problem anymore with the skates. When it comes back I will again use new and fresh laces.

I laced my skates outside-in where I was getting lacebite and it stopped. Try that before anything.

That will def. help. Problem with it, is that it is weird to lace up, and I ended up taking way too much time to get them tight.

Maybe the tongues' interior materials are starting to crease?

It's probably a depth/fit issue. But you could try adding felt to your tongues to distribute some of the pressure.

Both of you are on the right path.

Lace bite comes from a pressure point. In the vast majority of cases, there isn't enough depth and the tongue breaks down. Replace the tongue, get a bunga pad, cut up a mousepad, etc... All of those work as a temporary fix but none of them solve the problem with the boot.

Thats right, make sure you pay more attention to the depth of your boot on your next skate buy. I will for sure. The temporary fixes will hold you over for a while until you can afford to buy new skates though.

I was going to post a new topic, but I'll add to this one since I am having the same problem with Flexlites. I just got them a few months ago and they were super comfortable until now, and like the OP I am getting terrible lace bite on just one foot. My foot barely passes the 'pencil test' so I think depth is adequate, although next time I will go deeper.

I had thought of replacing the tongues but don't know where to get them, any other ideas besides what has already been suggested?

Not to jack this thread but can lace bit be considered on the shin between the top 2 eyelits on Vapor XX's? I've got a bump there now that is sore to the touch, I've had to stuff dense foam between my tongue and lower shin to even skate. I have no power in my left foot. I was taking a power skating class, which I've taken a couple years ago, but had recently switched to wax laces. Of course the class gets you to do the deep knee bends in the proper hockey stance. I looked at my left tongue and it had a crease there, almost looking like a flop crease but i don't flop (shin on outside of tongue). Is this something that will go away? Would buying a new pair of skates help the healing process?

Thx

I think the problem lies in that your foot is probably growing and you are tightening them up a bit too much.

I recommend you loosen up the laces from the bottom and adjust your laces, you are likely going to feel a difference immediately
