Dallas Stars

Stars currently sit in 2nd in the Western Conference and tied for 4th in the league. The biggest roster change has been in net with both Lehtonen and Raycroft playing amazingly as a tandem so far (to keep both goalies healthy). Several players are really stepping it up, Neal, Benn, Morrow, Ribeiro are all playing like they should and our defense doesn't look nearly as lost as they did last year (looking at you specifically Niskanen!). Just wanted to get it out there; they aren't getting enough attention!

no kidding! after the win in detroit last night i got to wondering if it is likely they'll go after a hi profile d man before the trade deadline, given their ownership issues? the team is young and hungry and we certainly have the talent (perhaps not experience) but definately the talent up front to go deep into the playoffs. would love to add a top d man. i hope they keep it up because the pacific is a tough devision right now.

Im surprised with how well they've been doing. I knew we had the scoring capabilities, but the defense and goaltending left me skeptical. Hopefully it keeps up. Next is ownership and Richards.

Definitely need to get Richards signed.... I can only imagine what a new owner would do. We get a new owner with some money, we start spending closer to the cap...

Has anyone heard any news about them finding a new owner lately?

Until a deal is signed off by the other owners, anything is still subject to change.

No news actually.. They are being pretty hush hush about it. Rightfully so, look what happened to the Rangers.

Niewendyk has done a fabulous job, which is even more remarkable under the circumstances of the constraints of the ownership group.

Dallas is lucky to have him. I'm sure Toronto fans wonder what might have been with him in charge instead of JFJ/Burke.

Petersen put on IR again. Hope it's not too long term. Young D-Man Larsen got the call up. He's looked decent in the few games he's played. Not entirely out classed by anyone. Interested to see him play in the big club again.

Dallas traded a conditional 3rd round pick to NJ for Langenbrunner.

yes! i hear we are only paying half his remaining salary for the year. i know things weren't going well in nj but i love to get him back. great person to have amongst our inexperienced forwards come playoff time. i believe he had a no trade clause in nj and i'm pretty sure he enjoyed his time in dallas. so sounds like the trade may rejuvinate him. good move joe.

Always liked the guy. Hope he does good for the younger guys. Good trade in my eyes.

I thought the NHL had ruled that teams couldn't do that with salaries?

Either way, it's the start of the fire sale in NJ.

i don't know much about the politics and i just heard it from a guy in my office so that could be incorrect. even at full price i'm excited to get him back.

As good as Dallas has been this year, I'm of the opinion that the backend still needs some help.

No doubt it does...but where are you going to get the help from? Until ownership get sorted out, I don't see the stars taking any more salary (Joe N. has basically said that after the Langenbrunner deal). SO they would have to work out a deal where equal money goes both ways, again, I don't see that happening either.

I think the Stars are just going to make a run with what they have and hope their system works out.

I went to the stars practice yesterday and Langenbrunner was out there. He looked to be skating with Ott and Burish most of the time. But towards the end of the practice when the players got their free time, he was messing around with Ribiero and Morrow. There seemed to be some good chemistry clicking between Ribiero and Langenbrunner. I wonder if Crawford might move him up to that line.

He definately seemed to be skating real well and meshed well with the team. Plus the value of the leadership of a guy like him is invaluable.

Definately agree with this... Thank god they turned their penalty kill around, but their blueline definately will need help, or find a way to play to the next level in the post season.
