I've looked at the libertarian stuff, some of the positions are too far out there to have a reasonable chance of being elected. It seems that there is no such thing as a moderate libertarian.

I admit, though I hate to, in American, Libertarian ideals would most likely not work. Maybe in a moderate country with less enemys and less to lose, it would be a better solution, but they are some hardcore views, but I like being in charge rather than the government

Government is needed for a number of things that can't be done effectively by the states or individuals. In addition some of teh policies like the legalization of drugs would require significant government oversight and structure in place, something they do not like by nature.

Ending welfare is a great concept but not offering a replacement strategy and simply assuming those on welfare will suddenly find jobs is asinine. Eliminating minimum wage regulations also can have a seriously negative effect on low income families.

Their stances on SS and privatization are not workable either.

It's always good to have another voice at the big table of national debate though.

Well with the ending of income taxes, the economy will flourish, people will have all this extra money, and many businesses willl pop up, and he economy will be crazy (IN THEORY!) This means more jobs, and can fix many problems. The higher the minimum wage, the less people a bussiness can afford to hire. I believe Social Security Privatization can work, but will it in America? I dont know.

You mean personal income taxes, right, vapor?

Thing is, you have to consider a few things: there's only so many things that people need to buy per year. Will the extra few k help? Depends on how much the person is making. If the person has nothing to spend on, it'll go into savings. Also, will corporate taxes go up to compensate for the increased earnings and lack of income? If corporate taxes go up, doesn't that mean that wages will go down to help pay for them so that the company can make its money? If wages go down, then won't spending go down? A bit of a stretch that companies would decrease wages, but somehow it seems natural to me, if taxes are eliminated.

No, before WWI there was no income tax, because it was not needed. There was no IRS. The government has blimped up to become a HUGE beurocracy, so when you shrink goverment, you need less money. BTW, all drugs were legal before 1914, and what does drug prohibition do? It creates gangs (bloods, crips, etc), and gangs create violence. Legalize drugs, organize it, tax it, etc. Same with prosititution, make it like nevada, ORGANIZED.

You really think it's possible to reverse 90 years of history, Vapor? The country's a lot different than it was before WWI.

I agree most libertarian ideals would not work in America, especially not a post 9.11 america. But in a smaller less politacly active country, I believe it is a great system of ideals

So what's the point of advocating it here? Unless you think that each state should leave the union and be its own country. Or do you think that each state should be libertarian with a dem/repub leader?

There are over 600 libertarians in public office today. I just support the ideals, and would like to see it happean, but Im just saying I doubt it will.

I'm not going to bed anytime soon. Project in lit is due tomorrow, worth 30% of my grade. Somehow this seems more important.

Kerry is going to go to court over Ohio. This may or may not be over by x-mas.

CNN reports Iowa and Ohio won't be done until later tomorrow...looks like we won't have a new prez elect this night/morning.

Don't count on it being that soon. I've got money on this going to court and taking at least another week. I got 2-1 odds that it will go past Thanksgiving (US).

Bush will be pronounced the unnoficial winner. It has to be within the margin of difference (in ohio) for the provisional ballots to be used, and at this point, bush has a more than 50,000 vote lead. It is in Kerrys best interest to conceed.

Now that Bush will probably be back he is obliged to do 2 things

1) Fix the mess known as Iraq

2) Put Bin Laden down

All the other crap aside these actions must occur for history to look back at this era kindly.

There will also be A recount in Ohio, because of how close it is. That's a state law, no need to rush, some people waited in line for up to 10 hours to vote. I waited 3.5 hours.

take your time and count all the votes.

Edit: sorry it is less 4% they can ask for a recount, .25% it is automatic.
