Bauer LS2 Prepackaged runners wrong\mislabled?

Recommended Posts

Just bought a prepackaged set of Bauer LS2 runners. Something didn't feel right when i opened the package (they felt "thin") so I compared them to my old Light Speed runners (from a different pair of skates) as well as my previous set of Light Speed 2 runners from the Vapor XXXX/s that need replaced. The mounting hook and teardrop hole - as well as the thickness) matches the LS runners exactly.... I measured the difference between the LS and LS2 runners last spring when I initially wanted to swap in the LS runners from an old pair of skates last spring when I needed a set on real short notice. SO, is this a screw up by Bauer, did I buy the wrong runners? There's just too much BS from the manufacturers changing this stuff these days with no real advantage to the consumer..... maybe I should just pull the LS2's off and put my COBRA's on from my Graf's?

JR,

I'm just reporting my observations and asking a question.... Don't remember who told me, but I was told that the Light Speed and Light Speed 2 holders\runners were slightly different. That difference was confirmed by a direct comparison of runners that were pulled from each type of holder.

The new blades (that I just purchased) are thinner..... enough to feel it when you lay them side by side on a flat surface. I can measure the difference if you like but it's probably between .005" & .010". You would not think that's much, but it is enough to allow significant lateral wobble when they are placed in my holders. Current runners and previous runners are tight enough that I need to whack them with a plastic mallet to get them loose from the groove in the holders. IMHO - ANY lateral play or wobble in the blade is unacceptable. I've had it before with TUUK's over the past 30 years and several holders stretched to the point that you could grab the runner and wiggle the blade side to side with the teardrop bolts as tight as you dared to go. The other difference is distance from the contact surface on the back of the hook in front to the teardrop hole in the back is ~3/32" shorter on the new LS2 runners when compared to the two other sets of LS2 runners I have sitting here. The rear tabs are consistent in all of my runners so the difference there is only the measurement from the hook to the hole. This may or may not be an issue depending on whether there is any tolerance in the molding of the corresponding slot in the holder. I've replaced these LS2 runners twice already and so far they have matched the originals in both thickness and the dimensions of the mounting surfaces - this most recent set does not.

LS and LS2 are identical when it comes to mounting points. The holder did not change.

You might have mixed up info with the LS Power, which had a different mounting point from LS/LS2.

Regardless, if they are not up to spec, return them.

JR,

HMMM, maybe you're onto something there.... Did the LS Power come on the Vapor XXXX's in white holder with a red "swoosh graphic" on the heel? It would be great if there was an easy way to ID the different holders.

No, the LS2P came on the one90/Supreme 70, the clearish blue holders.

TBLfan that's what I thought RE: the LS2 Power.... Now I'm a bit perplexed as I have the physical evidence sitting in front of me that something is\was different..... What about the LS2.1 (Or is that the LS2P?)

This really sucks as I'm off the ice the until Jan 2 and then have just 3 days off the ice between Jan 2 and Jan 16.... I pretty much won't have more than 3 consecutive days of the ice until March or April and it's more likely that it'll be just one day a week off. I'll definitely need to swap out the runners before the end of February. I'll figure something out... I may just end up pulling the COBRA's off of my Graf's if I can't find any acceptable runners.

Thanks for the info guys and have a Happy New Year.

The LS2Power holder (blue lexan) accepts only LS2Power blade.

The LS2 holder (red or black or blue) accepts the blades: LS2, LS2.1, LS Fusion.

The LS2Power is a longer blade for a longer holder with a lower height than a standard LS2 so it is not to heavy.

There is only ONE LS2 holder, the sign on the heel, be it red or black or blue like on the ONE95, it doesn't matter, it is the same holder. As for blades for the LS2 holder, the standard, the fusion which is the same size as a standard only with Al in it, the LS2.1 which is a longer steel for the LS2 holder, having more steel at the toe and heel, and I've heard of LS3 for pros only being a higher blade than the standard.

Hope this helps.

Steel thickness varies from batch to batch. The range is from about 2.8-3.1mm, with 2.9 being the most common. If you have slop and it bothers you, return them for a thicker set.
