Pants questions

In terms of padding and protection, where do the Warrior Hustlers stack up to the Tackla 9000's, especially in the hip area?

Also, does anyone know if the 9000 PRO model that the Hockey Shop sells has more padding than the regular 9000's, or if there's just little differences?

I can't comment on the 9000, but the Hustlers padding is thin- yet the density makes it very protective. The down side is Hustlers are built like crap. Poor stitching, thin materials, and shoddy workmanship. Still my favorite performing pant.

Shoddy workmanship? I have read the opposite from most people. I am considering them, so would you mind going into further detail?

The articulated thigh pad in the 9000 will make it move a little easier with your stride and the padding is softer/thicker, as previously mentioned. Personally, I love my 9000s and suggest them to everyone looking for a protective pant. I think the Warrior pants are nice, but I would take the Tackla every time, no contest for me.

Interesting. I figured for the price the Hustler's would've been on-par with the 9000's for protection, not less. I have a set of 9000's right now. They're super comfy, but as they've broken in and loosened up, the padding shifts every time I fall on my hip. I'm getting sick of bruising my hip every time I fall on it. I have a set of pro stock Easton Air pants that are absolute tanks. I might just have to look for a black set of lowers for them.

The right hand leg pad was not all the way stitched into the pant leg. The stitch was also not ever locked off.

The stitching along the stretch area of the rear was loose and falling out when new.

The belly pad lace guide was poorly stitched in and the stitching came out almost right away.

Excess threads hanging all over, many of them not locked off, so it's just a matter of time until they come loose.

Lazy stitching where the back pad meets the kidney pad, just random zig zagging between the two pads instead of following the seams.

All of this when the pants were brand new with tags. Some of it I've fixed.

Basically someone half assed the stitching on this pair.

I had the same problem with a pair of Franchise Gloves. You just made me remember why I went with Bauer gloves. I believe I will stay with my Tackla pants.

Interesting observations! I am looking for a new pair of pants and was going between Warrior / Bauer / Tackla and will be narrowing that down to the later two.

Side note, I have noticed many of the same issues with a pair of Reebok 9K pants I purchased 4 months ago. Loose threads, vecro patches on the zippers have torn loose, and so on.

I know you are asking about warrior, and Tackla pants but have you tried the Bauer Vapor X40 pants? I came from Tackla's 5000 pro, and went to the Bauer Vapor pants, and will never wear anything elase. They are like a girdle with pants attached. Very good fitting, and not as protective as the Tackla's but I only play shinny hockey, so I did not require to much protection....with that being said, I would not hestitate to wear them in "contact" situations...maybe have a look at them? They are made great, no problems with stitching, or anything. I too have heard the Warrior pants have had issues with QC....GL

Ryan, if you are trying to pick between the Tacklas and Warriors, go with the 9000's. One of the best pants I've ever had. Only reason I went away from those is because I got the Air Pros that I sold to you.

I've got the 9000's and they are great. Broken in, they are one of the softest pants you'll find, and I really like the canvas type of material they use.

If you go for them, just double check your size. I actually went a size down from what I would usually take and they were perfect.

That's what I'm using right now. I've just been spoiled by the Easton's I got from you because the hip padding is so damn nice. I was eyeballing the Hustlers because I was considering a new black pair to replace my black 9000's. I'm thinking my best option might be to just find a black set of lowers to put on the Easton uppers. I fell the same way in those as I did in my Tackla's and didn't feel a thing. In my Tackla's I probably would've been limping after.

Two questions for the hustler / tackla peeps:

Where is the best place to pick up Canadian Tacklas?

I wear a pair of XL Reebok 9k (2010) for the extra length (im a 36" waist and they are big in the waist and have suspenders) are the warriors best in XL for length or would the Large be best for a 36" waist / 6' tall?

I am 6'7 and 300lbs. I can fit into the warrior hitman pants in XL. I would imagine sizing can not be that different. So with that being said xl would probably be too big plus I have heard they do run big.

From a Canadian retailer or on eBay. I wouldn't get too worried about Canadian versus Asian though, my import 9000s are still holding up after 8 years or so. I'd like to replace them, but I'm really not in any hurry.

sounds like you are in too big of a pant. are you sure they fit properly? i have never had that problem with 9000s.

If you're worried about padding moving out of place when you fall, have you considered girdles? A good ice hockey girdle that fits you properly will offer very good protection, great mobility and the pads will certainly never move out of place.

I have to disagree there. I've had more issues with pads shifting in a girdle than in pants. Especially when you get rubbed out along the boards. The stretchy material allows the pads to shift with any friction.
