chines7 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 Biggest pet peeve in hockey is players who can't stop moving during the national anthem. I think that all people should stand still with their helmets on the ice to their left, and their stick held out straight with their blades tilted to the right. It shows disrespect for our country and military when people move during the national anthem. Also even if the player is not from the country they are playing in i think they should still stand still during the national anthem because the country they are in is letting them do what they love inside of it. lampliter87 8 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 I'm going to completely disagree. I'm one of those guys that sways side to side during the anthem, and it certainly isn't out of "disrespect for our country and military".

mug25 2 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 I disagree as well. When I'm standing still, whether it be waiting to get onto the ice, before a faceoff or whatever I dont like just standing there. My feet start to hurt. You're kinda taking it to the extreme. Maybe you should worry about schools taking the Pledge of Allegiance out of the schools before worrying about hockey players not standing perfectly still during a national anthem. chines7 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 i'm not saying that people are trying to show disrespect i'm saying that it is disrespectful to move during the national anthem and that players should stop moving for the 30 seconds it takes for the national anthem to be played, it's not being extreme at all
Lee-Bro 1 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 You said people should stand a certain way, have their gear a certain way. Yeah, you're being extreme. We don't need a "procedure" for the national anthem(s).

I think as the anthem goes, the helmet is off and players are facing the flag is about as good as you'll get.Mike
chines7 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 not false at all buddy but good try.i'm pretty much just trying to say that it would be nice to see more respect for the national anthem instead of players moving around, not facing the flag, and spitting during it. I guess the part i wrote about how to stand was worded differently than what i was trying to say i was just saying that that's a more respectful way to stand and act during it. lukejameslarson 5 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 I know that I'll probably catch some flak for this, but apart from international competition (e.g. Olympics, World Cup..) I don't really see there being any real reason to play a national anthem at the start of a sporting event.
Lee-Bro 1 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 Keep in mind there's a difference between social etiquette, rules (laws), and tradition.Social etiquette would dictate remaining still.Rules/Laws are traditionally only applicable to military.Traditions vary on region. Think about how many different things are yelled out during the last line of the anthem to show team spirit. If someone is bothering you too much during the anthem, feel free to quote:
hampshirepuck 2 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 Helmets off, gloves off and everyone facing the flag for sometime two anthems. Thats pretty respectful to me, probably they are rocking back in forth because they amped and ready to play the game, it would be disrespectful if they were out there shooting the shit about the blonde in section 102.This is really DISRESPECTFUL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2qFfuLy_fsand this is Boston's rebuttal RESPECT:
GoBucky 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 Standing perfectly still on the ice, especially when you're amped up for the game is easier said than done. IMO, helmets off and facing the flag is plenty of respect.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted January 29, 2011 I don't think we need a topic every time someone has a particular pet peeve. That's why we have a "venting" topic.
