Broke one runner, replace both?

Recommended Posts

One of my runners split into half, do I replace just that one or both? I've only had the skates since last summer and have sharpened them once. Was looking over the internet for the answers, and was unable to find an answer.

Yes replace both. Since one was only sharpened once, you can theoretically purchase one and have it ground down/sharpened to make it match the other's height...

But just get two.

Depending on your shop's charge for profiling runners, it may be more economical to get two, though?

I feel like my shops charge $40 for profiling... somewhere around that price.

Actually, I replaced the broken runner with a LS2, while the other skate still has it's original runner, a LS2.1. Sharpened both (so the 2.1 has been sharpened twice) and then skated on them, is profiling necessary if I just decide to go with LS2's and replace the 2.1?

Only asked the original question in that form for the person searching for it in the future.

What exactly do you mean by "chipped"? Bauer steel is warrantied for one year so if you mean summer 2010 when you say last summer, and depending on what "chipped" means, you might not have to pay for new steel.

As far as getting a matching pair of steel goes, maybe you could buy one piece of LS2.1 and one piece of LS2. That way you have a matching backup pair no matter what you decide to leave on your skates (just a thought). As long as you have a competent sharpener and have left the stock radius on the original steel, you shouldn't have to profile after just one sharpening.

Poor word choice, it split into half. Thanks about the warranty info, will look into it.
