Shoulder pads

Recommended Posts

Hey guys just started playing again after a long layoff. I signed up for a mens beer league and I never used to wear shoulder pads before playing in these types of leagues but I fell and took a nasty fall right on my shoulder last night and choose to wise up and strap a pair on. I am looking for the lightest least restrictive pair out there, I was looking at the sherwood classics anyone own these or have any suggestions?

Never used the shwerwoods, but I just started using the u+ pro. They felt tight the first 2 times I wore them (coming from itech's) but I got used to them. They are pretty slim and not restricting at all. I do play in a weekly beer league to.

I got these, they were cheap and decent. They're light, I don't even notice them.

I personally have never had any sort of mobility/comfort issues with any pair of shouldies, currently using a real old pair of Bauer 2000s and always forget about them once on the ice. If you want something very "shirt like" though, you could also give the Farrell pads a try, they seem to have a following and they're real cheap at hockey monkey right now:

$60, they have the black pads in XL and the white pads in S and M, no L pads though.

I am a beer leaguer as well and I've been using the Sher-Wood 5030 pads for a few seasons. Won't break the bank, light, very durable and sturdy, and the shoulder caps are protective enough.

I've been wearing 5030s for years, but they really won't protect you from any significant impact with the puck, glass, stick or other player.

Chadd, I recall Itech had a real basic set of pads specifically for beer leaguers. It was basically a chest protector with removable shoulder caps. Haven't heard about or seen these in a few years, I think they may be discontinued.

Itech SP50

Good for chest protection, but not much else. They would be fine for me, but the original poster sounded like he was looking for something a little more substantial in the event of another on-ice fall. I could be reading too much into it though.

I used the 5030's playing both beer league and college hockey and they provided enough protection for me. They're pretty short in the chest area though, but they should be fine considering you didn't wear shoulder pads at all before..

Nice, let us know your thoughts after you try them out. What I also like about them is the fact that you can adjust the lacing to get even more of a right fit.

I dislocated both of my shoulders while playing with those, about four months apart.

I like to wear the 5030s, but recently took a good shot off of the collarbone wearing those. The shoulder protection is fine, but really nothing for the chest and traps.

Picked up a pair of CCM V10s on discount and just removed the two pads that sit on top of the shoulder caps - now I have great protection for collar/chest and back, and they are still fairly low profile.
