Size of players then and now

Recommended Posts

You always hear how players are bigger now but I just saw Paul Henderson drop the ceremonial face off for Jordan Staal and Dion Phaneuf and he liooked like a child compared to those two. I know they were on skates and wearing gear but, man!

Paul Henderson was small when he played, too. Most players from even the 80s would be smurfs now.

Maybe compaired to some one like Chara but there were plenty of

Non sumrfs.

I'm thinking about some of the Capitals defense men from that period (Rob Langway, Larry Murphy, Kevin Hatcher, Scot Stevens)

All 6ft.+ and more than 2 beans

Players were generally smaller in the old days. People have just gotten taller and bigger due (as one factor) to better health care, longer life expectancy, better diets, more medical knowledge and training programs etc. Oh and teams began to like bigger players too

People are just generally bigger in todays age. I remember when i was growing up somebody who was 6'6 would be an abosulte giant. Today, it would just be considered "tall." I thought the exact same thing when i watched that same game though, Phaneuf looked like a monster beside Henderson!

A chicken does not grow from hatchling to adult in three days. I worked in a "Chicken plant" in high school and am a BioMedical Engineer by trade. Trust me when I say you're mistaken.

The hydrogen gas used to separate meat from bone is used as a drive gas to move the mechanized machinery to separate meat from bone. It makes a fairly nasty looking paste.

whatever.im just telling you what was shown on the show. and the gas didnt move the machinery. it was injected into the meat , and you could literally see the meat swell. then the butcher started cutting the meat. but i wont argue , just check out the show on DISCOVERY HD , Im sure theyll air a dozen times in the next few months

It's actually blue. They dye the chicken a dull pink colour simpily because it looks more appetizing. I'm pretty sure this is only for whole chickens, so i doubt they do the same thing for nuggets.

The D-men did get bigger in the 80s. Teams were scouting Jrs for players over 6'2" by then. Jim Kyte at 6'6" was considered huge. I was thinking of the forwards as Paul Henderson was a forward. The early 80s Rangers were nicknamed the Smurfs by the Flyers. That team had 6 forwards under 5'10" and Reijo Ruotsaleinen played D at 5'8".
