Do expensive skates have longer lasting and sharper edges?

Recommended Posts

For what its worth I noticed that my Step Steel runners hold an edge alot longer than the LS2's on my Vapors.

Fully agree!

I have had sharpeners who do not know the steel ask me as soon as they sharpen my Step runners. They always say "They don't fight" and "They are much easier to work with!".

My OEM Graf steel is horrible. It goes away much quicker and is prone to corrosion and chipping it seems. I have a couple sets of Step that I cycle and only use the Graf steel when I take the little one to public skates or want to skate outside on crappy ice. Just wish we had someone around here that could do not only a better job sharpening but also have the FBV so I didn't have to send the Step steel out by mail to get it done. I had the Graf steel done here a month ago with a 1/2" ROH and I knew right away I wouldn't like them just by sight... horribly done finish... could not do any better was what I was told which I knew was BS... and at a public skate it felt like skating in sand compared to my Step with the FBV.
