flaming_june 2 Report post Posted May 11, 2011 He posted a sign outside his yard to support his Bolts but was met with "petty" Notice of Violation.Like many other Bolts supporters, he flaunted that enthusiasm within his community. That is, until his Home Owner's Association crushed his freedom of expression like an over-reactive parent.http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/How-Lightning-fan-outwitted-petty-HOA-over-playo?urn=nhl-wp4283

Chadd 916 Report post Posted May 12, 2011 The guy sounds like a douche to me. Breaks an HOA covenant, looks for a loophole. Then looks for a bigger loophole to press the issue. Neither side comes out looking good in this. Then again, I wouldn't live somewhere where I was governed by an HOA either.

Why should he not be able to support his team, what does that do to anybody? This whole thing is ridiculas to me, if you want to put a sign up on your lawn, then you should have every right too. The HOA sounds brutal there, maybe if the sign stays up all year round and it effects somebody then take it down. But for now the HOA should just leave it alone, but i guess there a bunch of stiffs there and could probably care less about the violent game of hockey

You don't like the idea of HOA rules and while I agree they suck, I'm saying that you need to obey the rules. The rules were in place when he bought the house. When you live under HOA rules, you have to obey them, not do as you please. That's the whole point of an HOA. If he had read the rules and put up a flag in the first place, no issues. bostonjuniorblackhawks 1 Report post Posted May 12, 2011 at least his HOA allows security signs............mine doesn't allow them and when we didn't remove it, someone else did.The funny thing was, it was tiny http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0LLR3F6WUAY/SQ5YolME_vI/AAAAAAAAAL0/cEf6kFeNGYE/s320/ADT+sign.jpg
IniNew 53 Report post Posted May 12, 2011 I have to agree with Chadd on this one. Yes they are crappy rules, but when he bought the house he signed a contract saying he'd follow the HOA's rules. He should have had the flag up in the first place.
Vulcan7905 88 Report post Posted May 12, 2011 I'm with Ini and Chadd. We live in Florida and don't have a HOA at all and I laugh at people who go and buy a house and sign the HOA without reading it(south park episode anybody?). Then they get mad when THEY do something wrong and get corrected.Rules are Rules. Just can't go bending and breaking them cause the lighting are in the playoffs
flaming_june 2 Report post Posted May 12, 2011 LOL who cares. The sign will be taken down once the run's over. Plus the HOA hasn't bothered him about the sign afterwards. Case closed for now. I for one can't rag on him for not reading the rules. Even though I used to work in legal and finances in LA, these days I don't bother to read any fine print. Too Lazy!
