Grabner signs extension

Good for the Isles. They have a decent young core of players with Tavares, Grabner, Moulson, Parentau, McDonald, Montoya, Homonick. Hope they can at least be competative.

What was Vancouver/Florida thinking. Shocking display of lack of patience for a player with loads of unrealized potential and a skating ability that can only be held to compare with a few players in this league.

Let's hope for Grabs that he can carry it on and not disappear into relative obscurity now that he's been paid.

Hard to fault Vancouver. They are in win now mode and they already had a great offence. Ballad is a useful piece on the backend even if they did overpay.

Florida however.... I understand Tallon wanted to 'hold his players accountable' but you don't put a player with his potential, that you JUST traded for on waivers. But hey, I'm not complaining.

for the canucks, at the position they were in when the trade went down, he was expendable. for FLA, probably not so much. i dont think the canucks are regretting their move at the moment.

Same thing I was going to say. I almost can't imagine the organization NOT screwing it up royally, but the pieces ARE there. Or at least, there-ish.

They drafted him in 2006 and he's 24 years old.. I'd say they gave him plenty of time really.. sometimes I guess the change of venue or 'late bloomer' just happens.. NYI appear to be very fortunate to have grabbed him (tehe), I would be ecstatic for my favorite team to get a relative unknown for free and have him explode like Grabner did this season. Interested to see if he keeps it up now that hes got the money.

It's also a matter of getting a shot in the right position. In Vancouver he would have been getting third line minutes if he was lucky. Scorers need to play top six minutes in order to produce and he wasn't going to get that in Vancouver. He had a bad camp in Florida and Tallon thought he could sneak him through, bad gamble in hindsight.

Or Grabner got to Florida and made it clear that he was not interested in being there. Thus, Tallon did what he had been doing all summer, and getting rid of anyone that didnt want to be there, sending a message to everyone else there.

Thats what I think happened...

Exactly, he would have never posted the numbers he did if he played on a higher profile team which would in return probably kill his potential.

Grabner was given a chance in Vancouver, it's just that Mason Raymond went past him on the depth chart, got a new contract, and went back to sleep.

Grabner and Raymond were really the same player at the same time in Vancouver with Raymond being a bit more defensively responsible but having a tough time scoring and thus getting minutes and Grabner had an alright time scoring when we he played but wasn't committed at all to a 2 way game...he hurt himself playing soccer pregame and never really got back in.

hindsight's always 20/20, I don't blame Gillis for getting rid of Grabner to get Ballard at all...
