Mail Strike Looming in Canada

Recommended Posts

cheques?

I was being facetious about the hockey gear. This could seriously f*#$k up a lot of folks-which is the point I suspect. I am not particularly fond of being a hostage in a bargaining dispute.

Does Canada Post also control the other mail services like UPS?

Nope. Courier services should be unaffected but lots of members use Canada Post to ship stuff bought and sold.

canada post is like USPS. its regular mail. courier is always an option, but no one uses it for basic stuff.

the problem right now is that no one wants to use canada post in fear that if a strike happens, the item may not be delivered.

Lazy government workers (or Crown employees in this case). Always want more and to do less work. Oh, wait a sec, I work my ass off for the government. I take that back.

just to let EVERYONE know

the 72 hour strike notice has been issued, WE (i work for canada post) gave the management our final offer and they just rejected it with no counter offer so we will be on strike thursday night (1159 est) so anything that is shipped now will probably not be delivered unless it is sent with a really fast service (eg priority post) and if you use usps to ship across the border they have a contract with canada post to send it through them once it hits the border.

so DO NOT USE usps or canada post to ship within canada

if you have any other questions i will be more than willing to answer them

So are you (Canada Post) going to be paying the interest on my credit card statements?

What if I shipped something like last week and it's still just "accepted at post office"? I'm pissed, and the guy who bought it is more so.

when did you ship it?

usually it takes about 10 buisness days.. and when it says accepted at post office it usually means either at the customs office at the post office or it means its sitting in the sorting facility...

but, we aren't on strike yet, it will start on thursday night, so you have 3 more days of mailing... just don't ship anything out now

I dropped it off at the post office on May 24, since then the tracking has just said "accepted at post office". You think there's anything I can do to get it to move before you guys go on strike? It's been a while since the tracking has updated...not sure why. This has never happened to me before.

EDIT: And this is shipping within a province, so there shouldn't be any customs issues

oooh... how did you ship it?

if its regular parcel post, they don't update shipping status, unless someone is feeling nice, it is also the worst service possible... but any other service you should call and complain before the strike starts... that way you get your money back for the shipping

why aren't you on e bills yet?

Easier reminder, I would forget to pay if they didn't come in the mail.

I shipped expedited parcel, I'm pretty sure this service is only available for when you print shipping labels online with Paypal? Supposed to be 1-7 business days. I usually see updates in this order:

Canada Post notified of electronic shipping info (or something along those lines)

Accepted at post office

Processed at postal facility

Delivered succesfully

Any idea what would happen if I didn't somehow resolve this before the strike? Would CP still deliver it eventually or would they throw it out or something? o.O

Would you still recommend calling in? I hear expedited basically = regular parcel so I'm not sure...

Exactly! Who needs Postal Service when there are things like e bills, online banking, direct deposit!

I am JK, I know Mail service is important for business and a percentage of the population but I like to Razz KC83 because he is on my Men's Team.

Get back to work KC!!!

i would call in just to see where it is... get a hold of your local post office and complain... it never hurts to complain,

if it didn't get resolved before the strike, CP will deliver it once the strike is resolved unless it got lost in the mail somehow.... nothing gets thrown out...

expedited means regular... just a fancy word for it
