Warped Tuuk

Recommended Posts

What skate is that? Were they originally mounted when you bought them, or did you have someone put the Tuuks on for you? Initial impression is that the rivets were stamped too hard (based on the bubbling of the ends of the holder). If the other rivets are good you should be OK...but it looks like the rivets have seen better days, or you should take more care in drying your skates out to prevent the rivets from rusting.

Are these Tuuk's factory-installed, or have you had them switched/replaced already?

I've seen this before from over-driving the rivets when installing the holders. When you have the steel of the rivet pushing against the plastic holder, the steel will always win if it's pushed it too far. I haven't seen it happen as a result of simply skating/playing. The rivets are rusted, is it possible this happened when they were installed, and you didn't notice until later? It looks like the one next to it has the same problem to a lesser degree...are there similar problems around the holder, or on both skates?

As for replacement, if the holder is not loose (I.E. you can't wiggle it sideways with your hands, doesn't creak when you walk etc) AND the problem is only in that one location, it's probably ok to keep skating on it. Definitely keep an eye on them though. It's not ideal, but it's not uncommon for players to be skating around with one or two loose/missing rivets without even noticing it. If they get loose, you'd probably have to consider getting them re-riveted...and if there are enough locations whre there isn't enough material for the rivet head to grab on to, you may have to get a new holder(s).

The tuuks and rivets are factory and about 2 or 3 year/seasons old.Its just those 2 rivets on the one skate. The skate is a Nike bauer supreme one 55. I play in a beer league and def am still learning that I need to dry my gear ASAP.

If it's just that one spot it should be OK as long as the holder stays tight, just check them periodically and make sure it doesn't come loose.

Have you ever seen this happen to a Tuuk. Its still on the boot strong and does not move at all but it looks messed up. Should I replace it?

See the puck mark above the rivets?

Most likely you took a hard shot and it pulled on the rivets. See it all the time!
