interpathway 9 Report post Posted June 19, 2011 I've gone to bringing one good stick and having a low end stick as the back up. +1. Old Synergy sits on the bench.
goblue9280 33 Report post Posted June 19, 2011 I dont bring anything in during pick up or stick in puck worth stealing. During league games we lock our locker room and take the key to the bench.Except half of the time the person going through the lockerrooms has a key.
doodman 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2011 I got my stick back :) The guy brought it to the next pick up and called me from the rink (they had my ph# from me reporting it). So 'thank you' to whoever you are lol.He retaped it...put a big nob on the but end...but hey, I got it back. I didn't get to meet him as he dropped it off at the front desk. I left him a 'lightly used' back up stick I had that was similar quality to the X40 (since I didn't keep the thing).Btw I am like alot of you guys in that NOTHING valuable goes with me into the rink, except apparently highly desirable sticks :? That's great to hear that he brought it back! Probably had second thoughts cause it's his go to rink. When I was younger and the Green Z-Bubble shafts came out I got 2 of them and the next week I had one of them stolen from me. I remember I was pretty sad(I was about 10). Since then the only thing I've had stolen from me was $10. At a pick up game some kid who wasn't even playing rummaged through everyones stuff and took over $300. Worst part was my buddy went back in the locker room to retape his stick and said he saw some kid looking through a bag who got jumpy and was suspicious when he walked in. Told me this when he got back on and I ignored it. Needless to say no one contacted the police when we called the kid out after and he got away with it.And another story I forgot. It's pretty bad when someone on your OWN team steals stuff from other teammates. My team has our own locker room at our rink and it's always locked when we aren't in it and my buddy got his money stolen and found his wallet in the garbage a few days later. It could have only been taken by someone on our team as it happened during our practice.

You're one of the lucky ones! And another story I forgot. It's pretty bad when someone on your OWN team steals stuff from other teammates. I've had this exact thing happen to me. It was back in the day when I wore a beeper. LOL!! I even had proof that he took it. He was wearing my chain that I had on it the next day. My dad has played on 2 teams a week for 30+ years, they've caught rink employees and friends of rink employees before. One night he forgot his skates so we had to drive back home and get them. When we got back, his team was already on the ice, he went and opened up the locker-room and caught a 15 year old kid with his pockets full of money/jewelry. The kid had climbed up into the ceiling tiles of the lobby bathroom that shared a wall with the locker-room and dropped down into the locker-room. Needless to say, he learned a long time ago to take all of his valuables to the bench with him (a small athletic bag offers enough room for the whole team to toss their valuables in). cooperalls 4 Report post Posted June 21, 2011 It's a little depressing to hear so many people with similar stories, but unfortunately not all that surprising. I got burned once myself before I stopped bringing anything into any rink. Glad you got your twig back doodman.A couple years ago the rink I play beer league at was hosting a youth tournament. Our game was about to start and I was the last out, making it my responsibility to lock the room up. I look all over the room and can't find the key...it's usually hanging on a hook above the bench closest to the door. I see the rink manager and we have the following exchange:Me: "The key for locker room #4 is missing, do you know where it is, or can you lock it up for us?" Rink Manager (visibly frustrated from hosting youth tournament, searches huge keyring for the right key, gets more frustrated) : "Just use any of 'em, they all work"Me: "All 6 locker rooms use the same key?"Rink Manager: "Uh...yeah...keep that to yourself though, ok?"That's tight security. I wouldn't have put it past a few kids on the team to snatch his money though...
beth 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2011 I left my stick at the rink this week, and of course it made me think of this thread. As I was going back to the rink to retrieve it, I was thinking that I should probably just write my name and phone number on my stick in case I do it again (or if someone walks off with it by accident). doodman 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 Wow this stuff just never ends. Went to sticktime yesterday, there were about 15 skaters. Someone raided the locker room and took wallets/iphones/keys etc. I lucked out, all I had in my bag was my car keys hidden away, so whoever didnt get them, but a couple guys got screwed over big time. This is in Orange County - SoCal
CaptainFantastik 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 Sucks you lost your stick (before getting it back, apparently). Somebody recently lost $300 cash out of their bag at one of the local rinks I play at and my first thought was "why would somebody bring that much cash into the locker room?". I don't trust anybody and absolutely nothing of value goes into the building with me aside from my wedding ring. Of course, gear is different and it seems to be a somewhat common occurance for people to lose sticks at the rink when alot of times there's a big pile of backup sticks near the bench or propped against the wall in or near the locker room. I absolutely despise people who steal.
GuitarAwesome 1 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 That sucks mate. I subbed for a team once, took a shower, when I got back, one of my easton stealths was missing, but yippee, the guy had left me an S6. WOOPIE. Yeah, mistakes happen, it most probably was an innocent mistake. Bad luck though, good to hear you got it back though! We had a dude waltz into our lockerroom once, steal iphones, cash etc. Idiot didnt realize the new iphones have the GPS tracker. One of the guys playing, decked out in tattoos, mohawk, badass mofo, takes off with nothing but his backup stick running. Dont quite know what happened, but I would NOT want to be that dude and get caught...
trukweaz 3 Report post Posted May 9, 2012 I had my nearly new APX "found" last week. I left it, drove away. came back about an hour later and it was gone...shame on me I guess but still a bummer.
MyBoxersSayJoe 133 Report post Posted May 11, 2012 Had cash stolen out of my wallet once, along with a few teammates. Stopped bringing the wallet in. As for sticks, I'm 5'7" and cut sticks to my collarbone's height. Not too many people in mens league that would be able to do much with that hehe.
