Crosby With Reebok/CCM

Recommended Posts

Sidney Crosby is expected to sign a multi-year endorsement deal worth in excess of $1-million with Reebok / CCM, Sportsnet has learned. It will be his most significant endorsement to date. Crosby is already affiliated with Sherwood Hockey Sticks and Extreme Hockey Cards. The Rimouski star will join the likes of Vincent Lecavalier and Joe Thornton, who are already linked to Reebok / CCM.

We probably knew it was going to happen sonner or later.

I don't know if Rimouski are affialiated with Reebok, but their players all have Reebok gloves.

A couple of years ago, CCM signed with the CHL and were named the main equipment and jersey sponsor of the league. Since Reebok bought CCM, Reebok just decided to put their logo on stuff. Some teams have CCM logos, other's have Reebok on them.

As for the NHL, Koho is beeing put aside by Reebok and will probably dissapear from the NHL jersey's and will make place for the Reebok Vector.

That contract is up with the CHL apperantly.

Apparently, not.

Reebok owns the Hockey Company. From my sources, I have been told that The Hockey Company signed a five year deal minimum for the apparel and equipment rights to the CHL.

The deal began in 2003/2004 so it would go until 2008/2009 at the least.

Equipment manufacturers just don't sign league wide equipment deals for a single season.

Unless he's going to dump sherwood sticks it doesn't make a lot of sense to sign him now. He's already wearing the gear because he has to.

his not usin sherwood sticks cus he likes to, but rather he has to>?

no, he has to wear CCM gear in the CHL. Sticks and skates are the only visible items he does have a choice in using.

Maybe he's signed a deal with Sher-Wood? It's hard to believe that given his choice of stick he picks the Sher-Wood Force Flex thing...I love Sher-Wood's wood sticks, but have never found their shafts/OPS to be particularly outstanding. This whole thing is very LeBron. Signing deals before he's played a game in the pros...

Crosby does have a deal with Sher-Wood.

Hence the Crosby curve that Sher-Wood offers up.

And Eric Lindros' deal with Titan was the one that really blew the door open on guys getting endorsement deals before they ever played a game in the pros.

Mjor junior is basically a pro league.

I don't think it's even close to a pro league. Many players from the CHL don't ever get a chance to hawk their wares at the NHL level, let alone AHL. And most players are capable of racking up big points in the Junior ranks, but not at the NHL level (ie. Daigle, or maybe a less severe example would be a grinder like Maltby - a 50 goal scorer in Junior, now a role player. Yes, he's underrated offensively, but given the chance to play on a top line, he still wouldn't be a regular 30 goal man). There are also countless others that rack up the points in junior and at best are late round picks.

I suppose it's a good thing that no one signed Daigle to an endorsement contract...or did Titan?

The NCAA considers it to be professional since the players get paid. I'm not comparing quality of play, just the essence of what is "pro".

I think I remember hearing Crosby had a verbal deal with Sherwood when he was 15, cos of his age he couldn't sign a contract.

Oral contracts are not valid over $500 and any contract entered into with a person under the age of majority is null and void. More than likely his parents were signers on the deal with Sherwood.

The Oceanic are the most popular road team -- by far. Crosby and his teammates play to 90 percent capacity on the road. The next most popular team, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, play to 65.9 percent.

"All the places we go are pretty much sold out and other teams are motivated for that," said Crosby. "That's a challenge, for sure. It takes more than one guy to win; I've always realized that. You win as a team and you lose as a team, but there is a little bit of extra pressure. That comes along with it. When you are expected to score points, the expectations are high."

His impact hasn't gone unnoticed by the corporate world, either. He reportedly is close to signing a multiyear endorsement deal with Reebok/CCM that could be worth about $1 million.
