Kovy hits 2000

It blows my mind that someone would be picky about composite sticks that are custom made for you. The QC can't be that bad.

If the sticks are going to be made to my specs, I expect them to match my specs. If you are afforded the opportunity to discard 4/12 that don't feel right, then go for it.

If this is the case there should have been a lot more of his sticks at the NJD equipment sale, ha.

I know for a fact that Kovy had ordered a whole lot of Bauer Zherdev sticks that had his blade on them, all 102 flex and alot of them ended up on ebay or given away to his fellow Russian guys on the team at the time. I know a guy who played in NJD system and he had a bunch of those sticks from Kovy. I was lucky and ended up with a couple.

Many of the sticks may just be discarded without ever being used. I saw a video with the Penguins EM. He said that when their stick shipment comes in, Sid goes through about 70 and only picks out a handful he likes before they even see the ice.

If Kovalchuk does something similar it makes 2000 seems even more reasonable. Also he may do what Petr Sykora did. Meaning that he may curve his sticks with a torch even though he gets a custom curve. Taking a torch to a composite blade is a great way to plow through a bunch of blades very quickly. Seeing as the composition of materials does not cool properly, therefor compromising the integrity of the blade.

I specifically considered that possibility in my post.

You do realize that 2000 sticks over 82 games would be 24.39 sticks per game right?

If you want to include practice and all other ice time lets be really generous and say the guy skates 5 days a week 52 weeks a year that's still 7.69 sticks per day. Sorry not buying it.

Are they orange with g12e on the namebar? If so then I have one. Why would he order sticks with zherdev on them? To avoid contract problems with warrior?

If you've got a guy who is extremely finicky about his sticks and works hard on slapper, one-timers, and/or deflections a lot then you can probably get there.

Yep, those are the ones! you know, I never asked why but know that he never used a single one in a game. Vasyunov, ended up with a bunch of them and I got a couple from him before he departed for KHL at the end of this past season.

In late, but I've got an old kovy dolomite, 260 flex. (~95)

It was Heatley that would change sticks every game. He said something along the lines "that stick had its chance" - although he said he would keep using a stick if it had scored some goals for him, on occasion.
