Patches on an Easton S19

Recommended Posts

I just picked up this pro stock S19 and it has these little "patches" for a lack of better terms on the front blade of the stick. Any guess as to what they are?

Also, anyone have any experience "countouring" these down as many pros do with a belt sander? If I wanted to take just a tad off the nose and top of the blade, how far until I break through the inner wall to the core of the blade? I don't want to do that. If you've broke one, how deep is the hollow area on these sticks?

Don't do it at all. The stick will not last long. The pro's can do it because they have all the sticks they could ever want.

You can do it, you just need to put some epoxy on it, or melt some tape onto it.

Are you being serious? Epoxy is terrible with composite blades. Breaks down after one skate. OP, don't risk it unless you enjoy throwing money down the drain :).

I've had success with it.

If you shave down enough to see/feel a difference, you will be into the core of the blade. You're better off adapting to the most similar retail pattern you can find. It's going to save a lot of money and effort.

I shaved my retail S19 and it lasted me about 1 month and a half before the tip of the blade cracked in half... the blade is still stiff but the tip went soft

Point taken! I've done with with Bauer blades quite a bit and I've never had any problems contouring them to be shorter in the blade and such.

this past december i shaved down the toe "bulge" on my friends p92 totalone to make the blade the same height the whole way through. no epoxy or anything and he is still using it. back in june we even put some more toe on it with a heat gun and as far as i know hes still using it. hes got a 73 mph slapshot and a really good snapshot. mind boggling it hasnt broken yet.
