Adding grip to a non-grip stick

Recommended Posts

Hey,

So I needed a new shaft, I got an EQ50, and so far, it's great. The only problem is, they didn't have any grip models of just the shaft. Has anyone here ever added grip to their non-grip stick? I came across this product and it looked interesting, just wondering if anyone has done something different.

The only thing I have done is a "sticky roll". Essentially take the handle of an old composite stick or somewhat long wooden eng plug. Wrap in friction or double-sided tape. Then wrap it again in regular white cloth tape but with the sticky side on the outside. The cloth tape backing will stick to the friction tape. Rub the white adhesive onto the shaft where you want the grip. Works fairly good but does leave some residue on your palms and needs frequent re-application.

That drum stick stuff intrigues me. I had tried a product that was specifically made for hockey sticks that was ok but didn't seem to do the trick for me.

That stuff is interesting. I played regular drumsticks for years and years until they came out with the rubber grip ones, and I do prefer them. Incidentally I also prefer heavy grip hockey sticks.

There is a rubbery grip spray called Plasti Dip which can add a light grip coating, but it will wear off after 5-10 uses. It's a lot like the Warrior AK27 grip that comes off easily.

Lately I've been just rubbing a little tape on the stick, just a bit as it's incredibly sticky.

Go buy some Sex Wax or Mojo wax and apply it to the shaft. Works great and you can control how much grip you apply to the shaft. I usually reapply every couple games or so.

The absolute MOST I would try would be a light coating of silicone but I would also think that would rub off pretty quickly.

I figured it would wear quickly, as well. For a couple bucks a can though maybe hit it with a coat the night before each game?

I candy cane my sticks that don't have grip on them, but they tear up my gloves more quickly. I've also tried the plasti dip spray, but that rubs off after one use

Well, I ordered some of that drum stick grip stuff... I will let you know how it goes. I normally wouldn't buy this, but I also got some one95's on clearance, and all they had left were non-grip sticks, so I want to do those up too.
