Flyers' 2011/2012 Season Discussion

Recommended Posts

I didn't turn on the game until the Flyers were down 2-0 already, and I haven't seen any Winnipeg home games, but DAMN that crowd was intense today.

Can't wait for tonight's game. Jagr's first game back at Verizon Center, Couturier on the first line. I can only imagine how excited he is for this opportunity, as well as the fans. I think everyone has been in agreement that aside from the PK time, Couturier hasn't been used right this season.

Jagr HAS been back to the Phone Booth since he's been a Cap. Several times.

I know that, but this is the first time as a Flyer, and it's been a few years.

Question regarding Prongers' contract - since he's on an over 35 contract they are still stuck with his cap hit if he retires, but if they put him on long term ir every year instead of him officially "retiring" do they get relief from his cap hit?

This is what I heard them say on the NHL Network during the game. BUt...they were only speaking of this season. By placing him long term it would free up 4.2 mil this season. Not sure about the long term.

I was told elsewhere that under the current rules, they could technically put him on IR every year for the next 5 years if he doesn't officially "retire" but can't play. However, since the CBA is up after the season, that loophole may not exist in the new deal, so a lot is still up in the air. Of course all this is assuming he won't be able to play again, which at 37 seems like it would be the obvious choice, but who knows how it works out.

As I understand it they can't use the money until the season starts and they officially put him on LTIR each year.

Had it been determined that the stick in the eye incident is what caused the concussion, or was it something else?

It was the stick to the eye, which means he played five or so games afterwords with that concussion.

It was a hit from Martin Hanzal (Hanzel?) in the game against Phoenix that brought it back. I didn't see the hit but apparently it was a clean hit.

Of course, another Flyer goes down today from friendly fire. I was at the game and the place was absolutely silent when Cooter got that puck in the head. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for him as well.
