beaucoup_fish 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 If there are small holes in my outsole that are SELF-DRILLED to let sweat out, will this affect durability of the outsole? Thanks!
MaxKarpinski 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 i was planning to, and i started a thread about this. the popular consensus is that, no, it will not affect the durability if you space them out reasonably, and it won't reduce the performance of your skates
Chadd 916 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 As long as they're small it shouldn't be a problem, just take out the insole first.
JR Boucicaut 3804 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 Just drill 5 holes in a cross pattern using a 5/32" drill bit in the center and you'll be fine. Try to get the bit as short as possible so that you don't go and hit the holder.
MaxKarpinski 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 should the sides of the holes be sealed or anything like that?the sole in my 8090's seem pretty skinny (widthwise), JR, how did you manage to drill 5 holes in yours (maybe a pic please :D )?EDIT : asdfa posting on a friends account by accident
beaucoup_fish 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 Here's another question for you guys, will these holes I put in my outsole keep my boot "funky fresh" longer? Basically, what are the advantages?
asdfa 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 sweat that accumulates in your boot will drip out of the holes, keeping you drier and lighter, as well as lessening the amount of breakdown in your boot by reducing the amount of sweat.
JR Boucicaut 3804 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 Just find dead center, drill a hole in the middle. THen drill 4 about 1/2 cm off the middle hole.
Accord 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 You should also countersink the holes for more rigidity.
JR Boucicaut 3804 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 You really don't need to.I think you guys are looking into this too much. CCM has MONSTER holes in its outsole, as well as Easton and Mission (on the L7)
