Do You Remember Your First Stick You Had as A Kid

Recommended Posts

I can't remember the model, but they were a couple red Koho's with white writing, circa 1988. They had a really nice mid-toe curve, pretty similar to a Kovalchuk.

As a little kid I used to whack tennis balls in the garage with a straight blade Northland that my dad played with in high school. First street hockey stick I purchased was a one-piece Mylec, then we started using ice sticks because they handled way better. First stick I used on the ice was a black Christian with the classic diamond wrap blade, I always thought those were badass looking (and were tough as nails).

Can't even remember my first stick and that was only 10 years ago ahah. An early 90's Easton aluminum shaft I think... or maybe one of those black and red 'Yzerman' shafts (Canadian Tire SMU)

I believe I started with a Northland as well (born in 1973). That sure stands out when I first saw the title of this thread. It was straight blade too. Not 100% sure, but pretty confident. I do also remember having a silver colour VIctoriaville stick back around 1980, but also used the white Titan too.

I think the oddest stick I ever owned, and I think there was some discussion on here before, was a Koho fibreglass stick, but it was an elliptical shaft, that looked like it was wrapped all the way up (or down). Dark blue, with yellow writing.

1993 - Koho Black Revolution. Lemieux curve. Was a huge Penguins/Mario fan, so it was a no brainer. Then went to easton aluminums (H27 and H16) and then back to Koho with the Vector DRC shaft and then Revolution DRC shaft. Still have them all!!

A Franklin Street Hockey stick when I was 12. Didn't actually start playing "real" Hockey until I was 24. Picked up some wooden Bauer stick. Lindros pattern. I still have it somewhere :) My first OPS was a CCM V110 Kaberle curve.

one of those Gretzky Easton aluminum street hockey sticks that were widely sold back in the mid early 90s when i moved to the US. Pretty rad saved up a few weeks of allowance and bought it myself, lasted me quite a while, my dad as a gift bought a second one so i had someone to play with so it totally made it worth my while playing with other people

I'm pretty sure my first ice hockey stick was a Koho Revolution, it was black and yellow. I played street hockey with the other kids in my neighborhood before that but, those were just those street hockey sticks with the plastic blades.

Awesome thread...sorry for being late to the party....but childhood memories of hockey are among my most favorite!

I don't remember the brand....it was around 1969 or 1970.....but I remember the first stick that was truly mine and not a hand-me-down had a straight blade. I remember my dad telling me about his favorite player (Gordie Howe) being just as strong with his backhand as on his forehand with a straight blade.

:)

My favoritest stick, however, was the blue Jofa I received for Christmas when I was 9. It had red fiberglass strings horizontally through the blade, and it was gorgeous! Hat trick with it first game back too. Not sure I've had a hat trick since, actually.....

Hahaha

My first was a neon orange Sher-Wood. No straight blade for me because since my youngness it was obvious I was a lefty. It was in 1987 or something like that.

I see a couple of mid-90's Easton aluminums in this thread... you were some lucky kids.

I remember a Cosom street hockey stick I had, made of wood but covered with silver reflective vinyl to look aluminum. I was really cool for about five minutes before the scrapes on the shaft revealed splintering pine.

I actually found my 1st stick the other day. It was a red Titan. I found my old Bauer Supreme 2000, a Canadien, a couple of Bending Branches, Sherwoods with the Duchesne Curve and a Koho Revolution Lemieux curve. I gotta look deeper in the garage because I have A LOT more in there somewhere.

First stick was a Cooper, can't remember the model but the blade was coated in a water proofing resin. Then I had a few of the Easton aluminum sticks, until they were banned by the league. I guess a flying broken shard of one cut a kid playing midget pretty bad and the league banned them after that.

Don't remember Mylec for me, but road hockey was either old ice hockey sticks, that you wore down to a splinter, or a broken blade - cut off and one of those white plastic blades you attached (secured with a small wood screw), and curved it over your oven burner!
