twolinepass 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2011 Most leagues have import rules so even the low leagues get from major junior players or fringe ECHL guys.. is what i have heard but I might be wrong.
Tommyj214 3 Report post Posted November 30, 2011 ^ its a pain.... im trying to play in league just above rec in england and its a nightmare... You have to be a UK/EU passport holder( supposedly all you need now is a work permit) but... they can have as many imports as they want on the team but they can only dress 2 per game and only one can be on the ice at a time..... its obsurd. pbhockey4 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2011 A little more then half of the NHL players are from Canada and hockey is your national sport obiviously. Canada looks big so I believe you need to look more for playing hockey.
shotty 7 Report post Posted November 30, 2011 what he's saying is that no canadian teams are giving him a look, so he wants to try elsewhere. there's nothing boring about hockey in canada. if you want to go live in another country for a while, learn how to roll pizza dough and get a job in any country you want. BoDangles 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 What ever happened to just playing the game. Don't try and plan it as a job, never going to work. Sure we all wish we could and often think of what could have been like taking the invite to move away during your Q draft year, but in the end playing with friends and having a good time is all that really matters. Trust me, try not to over think hockey.
pbhockey4 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 @tongues well give it a shot the worst thing that can happen is that you would get cut.
doublemajor 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 I know a lot of teams in Sweden look for guys that have a winning background. You have to play some top hockey so at least a little juniors or some college hockey. Check with Division 2 in Sweden or Division 1 they seem to pick up players from Canada. I would just contact the coach of the team you would want to try out for.
Harv 86 Report post Posted December 1, 2011 I know alot of teams won't even look at you unless you have CHL (Jr.A) experience or NCAA D1 experience. A guy I know went from USHL -> NCAA -> AHL -> German DEL. To be honest his AHL experience probably got him the look.
interpathway 9 Report post Posted December 2, 2011 It'll always be resume based. Where are you from, who are you from, and who do you know.
dw91 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2011 interpathway has it right. Its gonna be hard to get some team to give you a look in Europe if they've never seen you play. Check out Austria or Germany lower leagues, they've got some decent import rules. Maybe even try to get on a lower level team near where you want to play. Then play hard and let the higher level teams hear about you and find you there.
